I replied, feeling a little embarrassed at being caught in the act of browsing for a book. Miles nodded, his eyes flicking to the book in my hand. “You like history?” he asked, a grin spreading across his face. I rolled my eyes, but couldn't help but smile back at him. “Yeah, I do,” I admitted, feeling a little shy about my interests. Miles chuckled and began to tell me about the history book in my hand. It was called “The Werewolf Chronicles: A History of Lycanthropy,” and it delved into the long and mysterious history of werewolves.

“You’ve already been warned about disrespecting our Luna, Arlo. Are you really ready to take on your Alpha?” “I’d like to know the answer to that as well,” Quirin’s voice says behind me. I turn and see him slowly striding into the room. I’ve known Quirin all my life. I’ve seen the way others avoid him because of the dangerous aura that he gives off. But I’ve never felt the menacing wave that is rolling off of him right now. For the first time in my life, I understand why so many people are afraid of my mate. I watch as Arlo steps back, his neck raising in submission.

My heart so beats fast like it's about to drop out. Miles smiles wickedly at me while Morien starts apologizing furiously. Unable to even look at their faces, I move a safe distance away from them. I sit on the bench and toss the book Miles recommended on my lap. It opens on it's own accord to a middle page which has the photo of a queen sitting in the middle of four ancient rulers. The text around the photo is scattered. I raise the book up, carefully using my fingers to point against the page to make sense of what is written.

Angry at himself for allowing her to get on the airplane and leave her life in London behind. He glanced down at her. She was leaning back in her seat, with her long, slim feet propped up on the opposite seat. She was reading a book, but not a normal book. This one had pictures and word bubbles. He thought maybe it was called a graphic novel. The incongruity, the sheer innocence of her reading such a thing made his lips twitch. He vowed then that he would make damn sure she came out of Mexico alive and whole, and that she would find happiness in Bolivia.

Saying goodbye is honestly bittersweet because these characters have lived in my head for so long, but I am so happy with where we are leaving them. They fought, lost, loved and healed.
