I derive no joy making stoic facial expressions, it does not fit my hoe-ing personality. My lips immediately form into a grin as I find the little angel I’m looking for. More like a little mouse. To me, Hazel is that pure, white, new born mouse with pinkish nose unaware of the wicked world before her. One who leaps and wants to be among without knowing how not being part of it saves her soul. “Darling, hello!” I call, waving my hand in the air. Hazel hasn’t sighted me yet. Maybe she didn’t hear me. “Hazel, honey.” I call again, my voice louder this time.

Eventually, I got used to the grind. Right when I started feeling proud of myself, Missy got pregnant. She gave birth to a snow-white little fluffball. Yeah. A full-on chaos gremlin had entered the world. *** I'd never seen a cat that white. Though named him snowy. Snow would look dirty next to him. Snowy opened his eyes on day one. Walked on day two. Day three? He opened the door himself, ripped open the milk delivery box, and drained every carton in the building.

The woman moans something that sounds like his name, but it is muffled because she is currently face-down on the blotter, and I honestly feel more sorry for the paperwork she is wrinkling than for her dignity. “What was that, Minnie Mouse?” Scott asks. I can hear the smirk in his voice as he grips the woman’s hips to pick up the pace. I squeeze the yogurt-soaked napkins in my hand until the white liquid drips between my fingers, and I take a deep breath to keep from screaming because this is my favorite pair of heels and there is definitely a splash of dairy on the toe. “I said the yogurt is very stubborn, sir,” I lie through my teeth. I start scrubbing at the carpet with ferocity.

White. My hair was white. I sucked in a sharp breath, reaching up to grip a strand between my fingers. This wasn’t right. My hair had never been this colour. Panic twisted in my gut. “Why is my hair white?” The voice, her voice, answered gently. “It is evidence of your powers. If Aubrey were any larger or heavier I would have had to brace myself against falling much more, but My Little Kitten is petite and light, so I am lucky with all the energy my mate has. This morning while Papa was busy with his boring meetings as he is every morning, afternoon, and sometimes even night, I decided to go poke the demons, I went to their training session, they are always training to take over the worl but papa doesn't allow them to go, well he didn't until now at least.
