After I snap a quick picture, I hold it out for us to look at and zoom in. “Is that a kitten?” “Looks like it,” he agrees and then looks up at the window where Briar has joined Jasmine. “You don’t think that the guy they were talking about was a cat, do you?”

I glanced up at Zane, who had just entered and I saw a soft smile on his face as he watched Eleanor's enthusiasm. "I found the most beautiful kitten, Mommy," Eleanor continued, her words gushing out in a rush. "She's white with little orange spots, and her eyes are so blue! She's the cutest and most adorable little kitten ever, Mommy! But she's still nursing with her mommy, so I’m going to leave her there until we’re going back to New York. Isn't that amazing?" I nodded, still trying to process this unexpected turn of events. "That's wonderful, sweetie. But why did Daddy decide to get you a kitten? Did you ask him to?"

“There, so beautiful.” I hold the end of the leash and give a tug, pulling her off the chair and down to her knees. They watched as the small human in the video grabbed a grey-coloured kitten with her short and chubby hands from a chair nearby, holding her upside down whilst the feline’s furry tail swished over the little girl’s face, making her let out a sweet and equally adorable giggle.

Flora lounged on the couch, her eyes following Whiskerton's playful antics. The little ginger kitten was leaping at dust motes, swatting them with his tiny paws, his tail flicking with intense concentration. The kitten's boundless energy and childlike wonder were infectious. An urge to spoil this little ball of fluff welled up within her. Flora chuckled softly, entertained by his simple joy. It was a welcome distraction from the monotony of her recovery period.
