Why is this place so white? In the distance, a flicker of flames catches my attention, drawing me towards it, uncertain of what else to do in this strange place. As I approach, the flames reveal a woman. She stands petite, resembling a cherub, but there’s an underlying danger to her. A gentle cough escapes my lips, attempting not to startle her. As her head turns towards me, a wide smile spreads across her face. “You’re awake!” she exclaims, rushing towards me, enveloping me in a bear hug. I stutter, a mix of fear and concern, mindful of the potential burn from her fiery aura.

I started “I have powers, and I can light fires. I haven’t learned how to control it yet.” For a while Ben just started blankly at me. I am not sure if he believed me or thought I was a nut case. “Really?” He said finally. He was hard to read. “Yes, it’s why I am out here.” I continued “I am dangerous, and I have to stay away from others.” “You don’t look very dangerous to me” he said. “Well, that fire was caused by me and that was dangerous” I said, “do you believe me?”

She wore a white dress that looked dirty at the hem, and she sobbed quietly into Zyran's chest. Zyran looked up at me, he didn’t seem sorry. He looked tired and serious. "Roosevelt," he said, his voice sharp. "Move aside, we need to get inside." I stepped back, confused. "Zyran? Who is this?" He guided the woman into our hallway. The bright light from the chandelier illuminated her face. She was beautiful, in a fragile and broken way. She looked like a doll needing protection. "This is Mina," Zyran said. "She’s the friend who called. Her apartment caught fire, she has nowhere else to go."

Straightening, she adjusted her flame-red gauntlets, her fiery eyes flicking between Maria and Nina. “Well, well,” the woman said with a grin, her voice carrying a playful lilt. “Looks like someone’s finally giving you a rough time, Maria. I’ve been waiting for this moment to show off my skills.” Maria smirked faintly. “I guess everyone has their time.” The woman grinned wider, pounding a fist against her armored chest. “Don’t worry. Whoever’s trailing you won’t live long enough to regret it.” This was Lysandra Blaze, the Fire Seraph, known for her fiery temperament and unmatched combat prowess. Her presence alone was enough to inspire both confidence and dread.

He said. "Stupid Amelia gave up." Said the woman. When I turned around I saw a tall, thin and beautiful woman. Black hair and brown eyes, very elegant. "Who is this girl?" She asked looking at me with a frown. "Mom, this is Eloíse Espinoza, my classmate. We're going to do a school project here." As he spoke, Harry looked nervous. Almost scared. "Pleased to meet you Miss Espinoza. I'm Brenda Barriere." I almost choked. What?! Brenda was the name of Julian's ex-wife. What the fuck was going on?

It was as if my heart had been pinched and my chest was tight it felt like I was suffocating. “Who’s that?” I asked, trying to show that I wasn’t affected by what I’d seen and avoided looking at the photo. “She’s Maria Mendoza,” she responded and brought her phone closer to her before scrolling even further. “From what I remembered, she likes Migs but at that time, he was with Amanda. I don’t know what’s going on between her and Migs, but it’s clear that they have something, or else he wouldn’t have displayed her in public.”

I stood frozen for a moment, observing the others, as I immediately felt out of place. “You must be the breeder, Calluma talked about,” a voice said, pulling me off of my train of thoughts. I looked in the direction the voice came from and I saw a tall woman with short black hair walking towards me with a smile on her face. She was dressed in light training gear, her muscles defined but not bulky. “Hi, I'm Mikayla,” she stretched her hand for a hand shake. “I'm the Pack's Gamma.” “Hello,” I muttered, accepting her handshake which turned out to be quite firm. “I'm Amalthea.”

Then we turned. The veiled woman from earlier stood just beyond the treeline. Her eyes shimmered gold beneath her hood and beside her, dragging chains that sparked against the stones— Mia. She smiled at me and then at Fiona. “I told you,” she said sweetly. “I’d be everything she refuses to be.” She lifted her hand, a flash of light burst from her palm. And the world went white immidiately.

Her smile returned just as her head sagged to one side and Mia fell into slumber. And no one, though they turned to stare, called me out. Not even Andre Dumont. He had what he wanted. His scowl told me he didn't approve. I showed him an image of himself burning, saw him flinch away from me. And had no doubt I'd find a way, one day, to make what I'd shown him reality. For Mia. Mom stepped forward, blue flame falling from her hands into the piled kindling. They rose in a roar, in haste, devouring everything so quickly I knew, even without my maji help, Mia would have felt no pain.
