Mineta X Trash Can Novels & Stories

Everything else went into The Pit. The Pit was aptly named. Upon entering Greene Salvage, if hauling a load of “scrap” metal (tin, iron, steel, cast iron) you drove your truck or minivan onto a giant set of scales. After getting weighed, you pulled off the scales, took a right and backed down an incline into a recessed, fan-shaped area. The Pit. You chucked your metal, returned to the scales, got re-weighed, then reported to the main office and cashed out.

“Damn! I’ve got the wrong keys. Just wait by the car and I’ll be right back.” Anxious to be on my way, I stood impatiently tapping my foot and checking my watch. I looked around without really noticing anything in particular until my gaze landed on a large 140 truck and two men, who were busily loading a collection of steel drums onto the back of the vehicle. A sign on the side indicated it was a waste disposal company that recycled used motor oil. There were probably a dozen containers sitting there awaiting pickup. The men worked from the front of the clustered containers towards the back, their muscles flexing as they heaved each metal drum up onto the truck.

A second later, another crate, this one filled with discarded catering waste and heavy glass bottles crashed down on top of me. Pain flared white-hot in my shoulder as a jagged piece of wood sliced through my shirt and into my skin. I tried to scramble upward, my hands sinking into a slick, nauseating slurry of overripe fruit, discarded hors d'oeuvres, and the cold, wet remains of the lilies Alaric had deemed unworthy. I was buried. I was at the bottom of a steel mountain, the "M" heights' most expensive refuse. "God," I choked out, the word muffled by a mouthful of dust and decay.

Police Compound – Storage Dock — Same Time The utility truck idled with a cat’s purr, hazard lights wink-winking against brick. A magnetic city-logo decal clung a shade too straight to the rear doors. Michelle stepped into the exhaust haze and scanned the length of the service lane—dumpsters, a chain-link gate, a blind bend to the street. Her people rolled the first PX-5 crate down the aluminum track, wheels thudding in perfect count: one-two-three-four, lift—one-two—push.

Lee tease me and laugh. I smile to her. "You know if you are someone else, I will beat a shit out of you but you are my best friend and yes she is beautiful but HER BEAUTY IS ONLY FOR MINE"

Alexis mumbled. Before long, Alexis was right next to the big trash can in the hallway beside the restaurant. Alexis opened the lid of the trash can, then began to lift and throw the garbage bag into the tub quite hard. Alexis closed the lid back on the trash can. Then Alexis clapped her palms together, trying to brush off the dust that felt on her palms at this moment. “Help! Please, help me!!”

He secretly wished to spend more time with her, but he didn't dare to make any requests. "Yeah, I've not collected plastic bottles before. I'd like to tag along if that's okay?" Larissa pretended to be curious. "Of course!" Nicholas straightened his back. He looked proud, like a little puppy in front of its owner. "I'm great at collecting plastic bottles. Let me guide you!" Larissa said, "Let's go." The neighborhood complex had a designated trash disposal area by its side entrance. There were janitors, but this was an old, run-down neighborhood. So, the janitors would only clear the trash away every alternating day.

Samuel felt a chill run through him and quickly lowered his head. "She has more sense than you think," Caelan said dismissively, leaving Samuel so humbled he could barely lift his head. He had been worrying for nothing. Seeing that pleading for help was futile and Jade was advancing with the broken bottle, Chenelle panicked and shouted, "I threw them into the trash bin by the university! If you go now, you might still find them." 'The trash bin?' Jade frowned, recalling the trash can at the west gate of the university. It was rarely maintained, and with few pedestrians around, the cleaners only emptied it every few days. If they hurried, there might still be a chance.

Ashvell looked at Cassana beside him who was simply shaking her head, not wanting to participate in the juvenile conversation. "Come on, tell us Cass. Where do the poops go?" Followed up by Robb. "I'm not gonna answer that question." Cassana dismissed, though a small smile was printed on her lips. Minos may annoy her most of the time, but there were few moments where he shines in entertaining his listeners. "Anyway, the point is," Minos continued, "Soliton's sewage system is obsolete and old, they haven't upgraded it in decades. Hence, why a short burst of rain would easily flood their roads. Why it's always wet and stinky."
