a woman murmurs. She’s not talking about what just happened when she says Miracles. She’s talking about people—very special people. Radar is a Miracle. So am I. There are seven of us in the District. The name Miracle has nothing to do with Powers, though every Miracle but me has one. The name was given long before any Powers evidenced themselves. It was bestowed upon us at birth. Indeed, our births WERE the Miracle. We live in a world of dichotomies. There are the Befores and the Afters, there’s Inside and Outside, and most scarily, Here and There. There’s no dichotomy for the Miracles, though. We are singular, unique.

It felt like a miracle, despite the conflicting emotions swirling within me. Lost in my thoughts, I was interrupted as Charles reentered the office, holding out a document. "Boss, no need to retrieve another document. You tore the photocopy; this is the original," he informed me. Snapping out of my contemplation, I eagerly accepted the document, needing to confirm its authenticity for myself. As I examined it, relief hit me. "Thank goodness," I exclaimed aloud, a smile spreading across my face as I clutched the precious documents in my hand. This unexpected Miracle had presented me with an opportunity I couldn't afford to miss, and I was determined to make the most of it.

If I was really in heaven, then she must be an angel.

The most insane thing about all this mess was that she was fine. Not even a single burn. Not a single scratch. She looked like a newly polished mirror. Was I even saying it right? My words and sentences appeared jumbled. Well, not my fault. It was the situation.

Only it was a mind reading mirror, "what did you I came here?" I asked looking at his reflection on the mirror as I waited for the mirror to do its thing

As I reached her, I wrapped my arms around her delicate form in a cautious hug, even as my lungs ached for air. In the midst of this surreal encounter, I experienced a miracle—I could breathe beneath the water's surface as easily as I could above it. Her physical presence against mine validated the existence of magic. My perception of reality shattered, replaced by a sense of wonder that reverberated through my mind. Her voice was gentle, full of awe. “He’s getting closure right now. That’s part of your new gift. You’re incredible, Edeline.”
