I cannot risk Umbra or Jenny draining my magic from me or killing me to get it. I wonder if when my mother died, did she try to take her magic, only to find it was stored somewhere. Miracle rattled the slips, checking if there were any secret papers hidden in between. But there was none. The second half of the story was gone. "C'mon... Don't do this to me. I have to know the story." Miracle pressed her fingers to her lips, murmuring lines of undefinable words that echoed softly in the dimly lit room. As she chanted, a gentle swirl of white light unfurled from her fingertips, enveloping her hand in a shimmering embrace. Silvery tendrils of smoke swirled into the room, weaving in response to her invocation. They laid atop her mark of divinity on her chest, and seconds later, the bulging veins around her reddening mark began to ease.

We were silent as we walked. Beatrice seemed to be in a trance, her hands stiff at her sides. Her palms were facing forward, like she was holding something heavy. “There is strong magic wrapped in this place,” she said to the air. A sudden pain jolted through my brain, and words came crashing into me. I knew immediately it was Mira, reopening the link that had seemed to be blocked between us. She just kept repeating and repeating the same two words. “Rescue me."

“Well damn, someone’s feeling generous.” Scarlet raised a brow. “You ordered this?” Mira laughed and waved her hand. “Hell yes." They brought it inside and opened it up. The scent of vanilla and cherries filled the air. Scarlet couldn’t help but smile faintly...it was a small, fleeting moment of normalcy in a world that never gave her peace. “Congratulations, Scar,” Mira said with a smirk, grabbing a fork. “You unlocked another power, healed a dying Alpha, and didn’t get murdered. That’s a fucking achievement.”

Once the magus returns, there will be no hiding the fact that not only is my belly no longer round, but that my nest has a new little inhabitant. “What am I going to do with you, little one?” I sigh, placing a hand on her still-warm shell. She blinks at me. Maybe less glow next time.”
