[Devona] The mirror has grown cold. Did he get my message? Did he understand that I wasn’t just fighting for one life, but two? Or was he too distracted by war at our gates? The mirror released us into a small stone room. It is almost impossible to see, even with my fae-sharp eyes, the darkness is so complete. There are no windows, which is not unusual, but if there are torches they cannot be seen as all of them are unlit. I expected to find the three watchers here, hoping that the mirror spell had somehow gone wrong, but they are nowhere to be found.

The shelf shifted, revealing a narrow hallway bathed in violet flame. The air grew cooler as they descended, scentless and strange, until they reached a circular chamber carved into the earth itself. Moonlight filtered in from above through enchanted quartz, illuminating the murals on the stone walls—stories told in wolf-shapes and crimson swirls. In the center stood a mirror. Seven feet tall. Frame forged from ironwood, inlaid with veins of silver and howlite. But the glass itself… it rippled like a liquid dream. Zara stared at it, something primal in her blood waking.

Dust floated in thick beams of moonlight as Mira pulled out an old grimoire. “The Mirror Realm,” she said, placing the book on the altar, “isn't just a spiritual plane. It's a prison. A reflection of every soul’s darkest fears and regrets. And Isolde didn’t create it. She escaped it.” Ivy’s eyes widened. “So she was... imprisoned there?”

I had to make my way through the major dwarf cities to reach the human and orc territories. But that was the next best place to find the knowledge I needed. The humans have the most well-known wizards, sorcerers, and warlocks of all the races. They were also the only race that managed to stay in concentrated communities besides the elves and dwarves. Half-lings were forest dwellers

“It’s already getting colder.” Time here seems to go by really slow, the same as my potion making lessons. I have been going at it nonstop this past week and keep making the same mistakes. It is difficult to know if I am exceptionally bad at it when my point of comparison is the almost perfect Lada. Thankfully, today another elf returned from a 50-year trip to the northern region with an extremely rare grimoire and the Mothers did not want to wait a second to decipher it, which gave me a deserved day off.

‘But…what are Mirror Devils? When she saw the confused looks on Darryl and the others’ faces, she bit her lips and continued, “Mirror Devils are unusual. They’re really evil and like to transform into stone steles. The surface of the stone steles will be as smooth as a mirror. Once someone approaches and looks into the mirror, the Mirror Devil will transform into that person. So, your sister and friend were ambushed by these Mirror Devils.” Quincy and the others looked at Darryl, feeling ashamed of themselves.
