Natasha and Dave weaved their way through the enchanting labyrinth, their reflections multiplying and distorting with every turn. Amidst the mirrors, they came across a large, circular installation that stood at the center of the room. It consisted of suspended glass orbs, each containing a tiny, intricately painted scene. Natasha and Dave found themselves mesmerized by the miniature worlds, peering into each orb as if glimpsing into a hidden universe. Dave leaned closer to examine one of the orbs. "These miniatures are like portals to different realities. It's amazing how such intricate details can be captured within such a small space."

I couldn't see him in the darkness but his deep voice growled a negative response. So, it had to be the mirrors. I stepped forward to the first one to the right. I saw myself. As I looked around at the other mirrors, I saw a few that showed the correct angles for the location, but some showed my back and other my front. My eyebrow's furrowed. It looked like light was not reflecting correctly here.

Just smoke. And mirrors.

Whispers of forbidden love and clandestine alliances painted a mosaic on the walls, and the very air seemed to vibrate with the essence of unresolved stories. The figure gestured toward an ornate mirror, its surface shimmering like a portal to another realm. "Reflections can be deceptive, yet they hold the key to unraveling the web of time," they murmured. As I approached, the mirror revealed glimpses of faces—my own, and others unknown. Each reflection hinted at a chapter in the saga, and the figure guided me through the reflections, unraveling the intricate knots of the narrative.

There was something half-buried behind a pillar, almost invisible unless you were looking for it—a mirror. It was tall, nearly reaching my shoulder even with part of the frame wedged into the wall. Its frame was carved into curling vines, each thorn sharp enough to prick skin if I touched it. The wood had gone nearly black with age, but the carvings were still perfect, almost too perfect for something left here so long. The glass was worse—split into three jagged cracks that distorted my reflection. My face appeared in fragments, pieces that didn’t quite line up, like I wasn’t whole.

“They have nothing on me.” “Sure, they don't. But, Rena, how exactly do you plan to handle this?” Ada asked, worry bleeding through tone. Mirena tightened her grip on the steering wheel. “The easiest way,” she replied. She merged into traffic smoothly, eyes focused ahead. “Do you know the disadvantage of a house of mirrors?” She asked and basked in the silence that followed afterwards. A smile curved her lips.. “It shatters the moment you throw a rock at it,” she continued. “Every reflection fractures. Every illusion collapses. The beauty people admired becomes something twisted and unrecognizable.”

Her friends said she had become obsessed with “the woman in the mirror.” That evening, as the sun set, I stood in front of the mirror again. This time, I spoke directly to it. “Who are you?” My reflection didn’t move at first. Then it slowly smiled, a smile I had never made. It raised a finger and wrote on the inside of the glass, the letters appearing backward so I could read them: **“I am what’s left when you look away.”** I smashed the mirror with a chair that night. The glass shattered into hundreds of pieces across the floor.

As they reached the final chamber, Ayla stopped. At its center stood a single mirror—taller than a man, its frame carved from moonstone. The surface rippled faintly, as if it were breathing. Her heart pounded. “This is it.” Kian stepped closer, his hand on his sword. “Careful. The Mirror doesn’t just show. It binds.” Ayla ignored him. She lifted her hand and touched the glass. The surface rippled beneath her fingertips, cool and alive. For a heartbeat, she saw only her reflection. Then, slowly, another image formed—her face, but different. Darker eyes. A crescent mark glowing on her brow.

I didn't look at my own reflection. I looked at the reflection of the battle behind me. In the mirror, Julian wasn't fighting a corpse. He was fighting himself.
