I wrapped my arms around her and hugged her back. “Come back to me soon, yeah?” I said to her back. “Yeah, I will,” Valerie said into my shoulder in a muffled tone. A few minutes later, Valerie was walking out through the door and bright and full of smiles. I couldn’t stop smiling too. I was happy I had finally found common ground with Val again after all these years.
