"She is feeling a sharp pain... because she has refused to regenerate her bond with her mate. And she is pregnant." I felt like I'd been punched in the gut, my eyes wide with shock as I stared at Valkyrie. But Axel's face remained impassive, his expression a mask of calm.

Valkyrie and I take our seats and listen as Jaxon conveys the information we’ve gathered. My heart jumps out of my chest when he recounts my plan and asks for insight. The name she buried along with the memories of Vanjoss. When he died protecting her, she lost herself. It’s like part of her was dead. With the help of her sisters, she slowly returns to her old self, but she has to forget all the memories with Vanjoss for her to keep on living like she promised to him. And that included her name. She didn’t let anyone call her Valkyrie, not even her sister and mother, except Vanjoss. Because she will just remember those horrible memories.

Once they were out of sight, I downed the mead and breathed a sigh of relief. I joined the others by the fire; they were talking about their plans for the night. I was half listening as my mind drifted and started thinking about my mom and the past. I stared into the flames as I drank my mead, my memories taking shape as the fire acted them out. No one but Thana and the Gods knew about my past, it was just as much hers as well as mine. They hid our history from stories and myths. Thana and I were the only born Valkyrie in existence, mostly because Valkyries did not procreate. Our mother was Brynhild she was one of the most famous Valkyries in history, and one of the most shamed.

She said, her hands were still buried in her coat pockets. For a while they walked together in silence inhaling the cold air. Eventually Zara glanced at her. "Are you worried." Valkyrie laughed softly. "You're very observant." She commented. "I'm serious, are you worried?" Valkyrie's smile faded immediately. "The stories weren't supposed to be real at least." She turned to look sideways. Zara frowned a bit. "What stories?" "The ones you know, that parents tell young vampires when they want them to be close to home."
