"It's hell. If hell was a combo meal, it's those three." "Got it, what's the last reason?" I insisted, my resolve unshaken. She looked at me with a mixture of admiration and concern. "You still can't give it up?" "Tell me," I demanded, my curiosity plagued me. Mia hesitated before speaking. "Fine. The last reason is the biggest. It's called A.mo.ry." "What? He is a fine catch for a husband. He's good-looking, rich, and professional." She shook her head to disagree. "You only know half of it. As much as he's a professional, he's annoying."

So I called Mia. We sat in our usual corner booth at the café across the street, the one with the sticky table and the peeling vinyl seat. I poked halfheartedly at my sandwich, the lettuce wilting under the fluorescent lights. “You’ve been glaring at that lettuce for ten minutes,” Mia said, raising an eyebrow. “Spit it out, Amara. What’s wrong?” I dropped my head into my hands with a groan. “It’s… Damian.” Her expression brightened immediately, mischief flashing in her eyes. “Finally. I was beginning to think you two were robots programmed to hate each other forever.”
