The monster stopped and turned to face me, its deathly pale, corpse-colored flesh radiating sickly every flash of lightning. "Why the devil would I let 'em go? You don't need these rug rats!" It spoke in a sneering snarl, baiting me. "I need 'em, you monster!" I yelled, heaving through muck, legs burning. "Hold on, Jace! I'm going to get you!"

The sight of it pierced my heart again, but I just couldn't stop myself from holding onto that title. “The earlier you start doing what this demon and venomous monster wants, the better for you, because that's who I am.” I yelled, my eyes burning with wrath.

Before my fingers even reached it, the book opened by itself. Just like it always used to whenever a new page filled up. My chest tightened. The page was blank for two seconds. Then words began to form. Like invisible ink deciding to show itself. {Your vampire side is not dead son.} I swallowed. {I believe you assumed it died but it is not.} My fingers curled into fists. {Your inner monster is in a deep slumber.} My breath grew heavier. {Use your fire to bring it back to life.}

Her upper and lower teeth were chattering uncontrollably. This person… thing before her… was a monster! How could a human possibly fight a monster? And why did such a monster even exist? The apocalypse was already bad enough—why did monsters have to appear too? "What exactly are you?" Christina roared, summoning the last of her courage. Number 114 thought for a moment. "I am… a monster your dad created." "Ah—!" Christina screamed as the woman plunged a fruit knife into her body, pushing it in inch by inch. The pain made tears stream down her face.
