Lily. Liam didn’t even think about his feet or his legs or anything as he pumped himself, pushing his muscles to run to her as if he was trying to make a touchdown. He was screaming for her, begging for her to come to him, but she wasn’t moving. She was bleeding from her neck, and was incredibly pale. When Liam took her into his arms, she was cold. The blue in her eyes was disappearing. “Lily, oh my Lily,” Liam cried. “No no no, look at me baby. Baby look at me. Please, please,” He begged her. He begged her with everything in his belief system. He begged and begged.

Raphael said, surprised. “Yes, I read that in a documentary,” Alfred said. “I think we have to move on,” Alfred said. “Yes, boss,” the other astronauts said. “No one should remove his or her water tank. You know the tanks are our source of breathing because the atmosphere of the moon is a vacuum; it has no oxygen, it has no carbon and sundries,” Alfred said. “Alright, boss,” the other astronauts said. Soon, the astronauts got to the water bodies and stood still in bewilderment. There was a great resemblance between the Earth’s water bodies and the moon’s water bodies.

After a few more breaths, he lowered himself back down to the mat, giving the others a chance to replenish their air supply. Madissa followed Bryan's lead and made her way up to the moonhole, her curiosity piqued by the increasing brightness of the air garden. She inhaled deeply, savoring the clean air that filled her lungs, and then descended back down to join the rest of the group on the mat.

The Breath of a Dying Moon The night felt unsettling. Luna was the first to notice — a subtle vibration beneath the ground, as if the earth itself was attempting to exhale through fractured lungs. The atmosphere outside the makeshift camp glimmered with a delicate, silver mist that had not been present moments earlier. It coiled around the trees, murmuring, shifting, and tugging. The first omen came on a night so clear it hurt to look up. Luna lay on her back in a shallow hollow, her blanket pulled only halfway over her because the cold wasn’t what kept her from sleep. It was the sky. The storm that had tried to eat the forest days before had scoured the air clean. Stars burned with a diamond-hard brilliance, so sharp and innumerable that looking at them felt like pressing her eyes against frost. The moon was a thin, waning crescent, low on the horizon. Its light traced silver along the rims of black branches, caught briefly in the eyes of some small creature watching from the underbrush.

We bent to read the plaque. "Luna Jessica of the Blood Moon pack, the second of the pack to be Corrupted, victim of the Silver Hands." the plaque read. "Your mother," Mabel told me. She walked to a cabinet I hadn't noticed and got out a round, white rock. It was big enough to fit in the cup of her palms. "Moon rock," she told me. "Harnesses the light of the moon. It captures moonlight, and releases it when the user needs it."

Kael replied. “Helpful explanation.” He gave her a small smile. “They tell the story of the Twenty Moons.” Luna ran her fingers across one of the glowing carvings. The moment she touched it, a powerful wave of energy rushed through her. Her vision exploded with light. Suddenly she wasn’t standing in the stone circle anymore. She was somewhere else. A massive sky stretched above her. Twenty enormous moons filled the darkness, glowing in different colors—silver, blue, violet, gold.
