he muttered, though a hint of sarcasm laced his tone.
“These coins,” he went on, “are silver, stamped with phases of the moon on one side and the goddess of night on the other. Five Crescents make a Half-Moon, and two Half-Moons make a Full Moon.” He spoke with a rhythm that might have sounded mesmerizing to anyone else, but to me, it was a lullaby. I couldn’t make myself care, no matter how much he repeated the details.
“Is that so?” I mumbled absently, reaching for the silver coins lying on the table. They felt heavy and cool under my fingertips, foreign in their elegance. “I never knew there was something like this here.”
