Each arch shimmered with a different color. Blue, rippling like a river. Red, flickering like flame. Green, alive with curling vines and the smell of fresh soil. White, moving with invisible currents of air that made Luna’s skin prickle. At the center, where the Moonlight struck, lay a simple stone disc, etched with the crescent that had once burned itself into her skin. Luna’s breath caught. Her heart hammered. No one else stood with her. No Orion. No pack. No ancestors, visible at least.

How fucking lame is that? ‘The mobile,’ Ares grumbles from the abyss. His reminder brings my attention to the hanging structure above my son’s bed. Walking closer, I gaze at it. It is beautifully crafted. The tent covering the moon is a beautiful navy blue, constellations’ decorate the top, reminding me of the night sky. Underneath sits the triple moon. Upon closer inspection, a key sits in the full moon at the center. Wolves circle the moon, their howling and running figures hanging by fish wire.

The bonfire dies. One moment, flames lick the sky. The next, they’re snuffed out, as though doused by an invisible hand. Moonlight floods the clearing, harsh and silver-bright. “Ryland…” You stand, knives already in your hands. He shifts, his wolf form a shadow against the glare. “Stay behind me.” The pack falls silent. A child whimpers. Then She appears. The Moon Goddess is not what you expected. No radiant figure or gentle mother—She is a storm given form, Her hair a blizzard, Her eyes twin eclipses. The ground frosts beneath Her bare feet.

As though my pain was just a lesson for the pack to learn. "If the Moon Goddess made a mistake," a voice called out, "then maybe the mistake isn't the bond." The hall went quiet. I looked toward the voice. It was an older wolf, one of the pack elders. His name was Marcus too, I remembered. The irony wasn't lost on me. "What do you mean?" the Alpha asked. The elder turned and looked directly at me. "Maybe the mistake was choosing the wrong mate. Maybe the Moon Goddess intended for someone else to be Alpha Ryker's Luna."

The Moon goddesses temple was a beautiful sight to behold. The temple stood majestically, its weathered stone façade glowing silver in the moonlight. Delicate carvings of crescent moons, stars, and lunar cycles adorned the walls, while intricate marble mosaics depicted the Moon Goddess's gentle power. A grand entrance, flanked by slender columns, led to a serene inner sanctum. Soft, ethereal light filtered through the temple's latticework ceiling, illuminating the central altar, where a glorious statue of the Moon Goddess shone.

Then the clouds came. The second the sun was hiding behind the clouds, the loudest shriek Liam had ever heard in his life erupted from behind him. He turned, but he was too slow. A figure in a black cloak had grabbed him and lifted him a solid foot from the ground. It’s hands were cold, clammy, and strong. Liam struggled to breathe, crying out in pain. He could feel his neck being crushed under the weight of this...creature’s...strength, and he kicked and struggled as hard as he could. Liam could hear the sounds of the townsfolk fleeing, knocking over chairs and each other to get away from the cloaked figure. Liam took a second to look into it’s eyes, determined to see who was attacking him.

The full moon shone brightly in the night sky, casting a mesmerizing silvery glow across the land. Alpha Galan, stood at the edge of a cliff, his keen eyes fixed on the radiant lunar sphere. It was on this sacred night that he could call upon Selene, the moon goddess, his mother, and the divine being who bestowed him with his extraordinary abilities. As the moonlight reached its peak, a celestial aura enveloped Alpha Galan, and he felt a surge of power coursing through his veins. He raised his arms to the heavens, calling out to his mother, the moon goddess, with a melodic incantation passed down through generations:

"A special thank you to the Alphas and Lunas who have traveled from far and wide to partake in this year’s Celestial Bonding at Moonshade pack." He goes on to explain the significance of the night. “The bonding eclipse moon is a rare gift from the Moon Goddess. It was created to help our kind find their fated mates more easily, heightening our senses to its peak.” Then, a dark smirk plays on his lips. "It also, as many of you already know, makes everyone a little extra aroused and… horny."

Touched her face with fingers that were cold and warm at once. “You are Queen of Two Moons,” Selene said. “But that was never the end. It was the test.” Luna looked up. “Test for what?” Selene smiled. Sad. Proud. “For the third moon.” The sky cracked again. The fourth moon, silver, pulsed once and vanished. In its place, a new moon rose. Not silver. Not red. Black. With a silver ring around it. Like an eclipse frozen. “The Third Moon,” Selene said. “The moon of balance. The moon of endings and beginnings. It rises when a queen chooses all wolves, not just her own.”

he muttered, though a hint of sarcasm laced his tone. “These coins,” he went on, “are silver, stamped with phases of the moon on one side and the goddess of night on the other. Five Crescents make a Half-Moon, and two Half-Moons make a Full Moon.” He spoke with a rhythm that might have sounded mesmerizing to anyone else, but to me, it was a lullaby. I couldn’t make myself care, no matter how much he repeated the details. “Is that so?” I mumbled absently, reaching for the silver coins lying on the table. They felt heavy and cool under my fingertips, foreign in their elegance. “I never knew there was something like this here.”
