Three days later, it was Mason’s birthday party, and also our pack’s most important annual full moon celebration. The celebration was held in the castle at the heart of our territory, the source of the pack’s power. Huge moonstone pillars shimmered under the real moonlight, and drinks made from moonflower nectar glowed in cups carved from animal bone. Ethan, as always, showed off his generosity as Alpha, throwing Mason a huge birthday bash. I wore the moon-white ceremonial robes that marked me as Luna, but I was stuck in the most out-of-the-way corner. Mason and Maya held Isabella’s hands, one on each side, like little birds safe under their mother’s wing, never leaving her side.

He just as he woke, he overheard a pair of rogue scouts, their voices coming from a nearby camp, their words slurred from drinking too much. “The rogue queen took half the army to Moonclaw,” one grumbled. “She left us to guard this rock while she and that old father of hers hunts Moonclaw.” He added. “Moonclaw’s done for,” the other said and laughed. “Conoron and Konan will burn it down.” He said and smiled.

Then 299,999. Then 299,998. Moons were disappearing. Not fading. Vanishing. Like someone was erasing stars. “They’re not going to the sky,” Dara whispered. “They’re going into the ground.” Under the trees, small lights flickered in the soil. Like seeds. But wrong. Cold. In order to attract investment, the government greatly developed tourism resources and relaxed their policies. The Lunar Island was included in the development plan and many developers were interested in the unique conditions of this small island.
