CHAPTER 34 The Moroi Queen Speaks Friday, January 28, 2028 – 10:47 p.m. If someone were to ask me if I was a witch or a vampire, I’d laugh. I’m a Blood Wizard. Queen of the Moroi. She turned to me, eyebrows raised. “Apparently there are no obvious wounds. Do you still think they’re animal attacks?” “Of course.” I rolled my eyes. “What else would they be? Vampires?” “You think I’m crazy, but that’s the only explanation that makes sense.”

“We saved each other.” He studied me carefully. “Why?” “Because Thorin is the real enemy.” Another vampire approached. “What do you want in return?” I met their gaze. “An alliance.” The two vampires exchanged a look. Finally the first one nodded. “Very well.” He pulled a dagger from his belt. “Then we seal it the old way.” He sliced his palm and held it out. “Blood oath.” I did the same. Our blood mixed as we clasped forearms. I looked toward the distant mountains where the Den waited.

His limbs were ripped from their sockets, torn apart piece by piece. “Ah,” I let out a sharp gasp watching the gruesome sight and then realizing it was no different from what Rowan wanted to do. This scene would be a ghastly feast for any vampire, a sight that was capable of satisfying their darkest and most depraved desires - blood. And yet, this was exactly the kind of slaughter that Rowan had been craving. “Are you alright?” Alpha Axel asked me suddenly, his eyes scanning my face. “Y-yes. I am,” came my reply, with an affirmative nod.

The woman standing before him had a face that turned dark as she stared at him. She pulled back a little, her chest rising, and her mouth opening in a way that he knew was not possible for a normal human being. Large fangs came out in the place of her normal teeth, and her face took on the shape of a ferocious animal. Veins popped out on her face, and her pure brown eyes turned a shade of black worse than anything he had ever seen before. She growled, emitting the most terrifying sound he had ever heard.

Something she could only imagine existed in books and movies. A pair of red eyes and two long fangs that stuck out of the mouth as though they were always meant to be there. Except there was no blood dripping from his mouth as always described in books. Yet, she was still scared senseless at the sight of a living, vampire right in front of her eyes. He moved closer to her again but this time, she was prepared and understood what he was. She lunged on her feet in fright and prepared to flee. But she had barely moved two steps when that figure appeared in front of her again.

As I watched them, I thought about how things changed since my mom became the vampire queen. Originally, male vampires were all hunters or drones who travelled into the human realm to mark possible future bodies for the vampire queen. Sharra gave them a portion of her magic so they could walk in the sunlight. They could only be killed by removing the heart. With female vampires or workers, they could be killed more easily by either the sun or a stake through the heart.

While stronger than vampires, and non-hybrid beings, they are still subjective to vampire-werewolf hybrids and it seems a hybrid of this species is violently uncommon.
