Hunter's Moon
In the last minute before midnight, she stepped into the compound and watched the hunter’s moon light up the sky.
“Emory!”
Startled, Emory glanced over at the porch where her aunt stood.
“Shift back! ” she yelled softly.
But it was too late. Her bones snapped like they had a life of their own, causing her the most pain she had ever felt. Against the excruciating agony of what was happening, she couldn’t scream, howl, or cry as her veins surged with an almost acidic current, reforming her.
Not quite human.
Not wolf either.
Her eyes were fixed on her aunt who hung her hands on her waist with a hollow expression.
