He was grounded, forbidden from high-speed trains and planes, scraping by on odd jobs. Maybe I stared a second too long, because Seth looked up, our eyes locked, and he quickly looked away. He did not have the guts to approach me. I turned away and told the driver to hit the road. The dark clouds of my past had been blown away by time. By ditching the wrong guy and shaking off the chains that held me back, I was ready to meet the best version of myself and step into a brighter future. Only heading up from then on, reaching for the stars, ready to shine.

I reply putting on a fake sad expression. "Well, if you think of any other funny stories, you'll have to share them with me," Iskander says smiling. "You're a really good storyteller." "Thanks," I say, feeling a warm glow of happiness. "It's nice to laugh and have fun. I haven't had that in a while." "That's why I'm here," Iskander says, giving me a big smile. "To make sure you have a good time." I smile back at him, feeling grateful for his friendship. "Thanks, Iskander. That means a lot to me."

It was like we were two old friends, sharing a meal and some laughs together. Derek, being the jokester that he is, was regaling me with stories of his latest misadventures. He was telling me about the time he accidentally superglued his shoes to the floor during a presentation, and I was laughing so hard I was crying. "Oh my god, Derek, that's hilarious!" I exclaimed, wiping tears from my eyes. "How do you always manage to get yourself into these situations?" Derek grinned, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "It's a gift, my friend," he said. "I'm like a magnet for chaos and destruction."

What started off as a fairly subdued group quickly opened up as each of them told funny stories about themselves, knowing that Mark, Myra and Maddy didn't really know any of them. Mark told them of how he'd been so hungover in a lecture at college once that he'd fallen asleep and when he woke up it took him three hours to discover he had drawings on his face. Maddy told them of a photoshoot she'd done where she fainted in front of a client but still got the job, and of how she once did the infamous 'skirt-tucked-into-her-underwear' thing and no-one told her.

Besides, who exactly gave Todd the illusion that he was someone important? I scoffed. "Todd Westman, from the moment you had the audacity to spout all that, you lost the right to speak to me." People could only communicate meaningfully when they were on the same intellectual level. Seeing how resolute I was, Todd struggled frantically and screamed, "No… Babe, listen to me. I can explain. I was just confused for a second. I love you!" "Shut up. Just listening to you makes my ears feel dirty."

I’m about to snap back at Noah when he suddenly says, “Why did the scarecrow become a successful motivational speaker?” I blink, completely thrown off. “What?” “The scarecrow,” Noah repeats, his grin widening. “He was outstanding in his field.” There’s a beat of silence, and then Jacob lets out a surprised snort, shaking his head. “Oh my god, that’s terrible.” Against my better judgement, I feel a laugh bubble up in my chest. I try to shove it down, but it escapes before I can stop it. It’s small, just a quick laugh, but it’s there. Noah’s grin gets wider, and Jacob looks at me like he’s just seen a miracle.

“Come on, Gianna. Even CEOs laugh once in a while. Tell me the last time you found something genuinely funny.” She stopped typing, tilting her head in thought. “Does watching you fumble through introductions at that client dinner count?” “Ouch,” I said, clutching my chest dramatically. “Straight for the kill.” She smiled, a quick and fleeting thing, but it was enough to keep me going. “Seriously, though,” I pressed. “You’ve got to have a story. Something that made you laugh so hard you couldn’t breathe.”

The car then rolled forward and crushed him I don't own any of this stories. I found them in some creepy books. I'm thinking of writing my own scary stories, but not anytime soon.
