Must Read Poetry Books Novels & Stories

She's a nice girl, even though I'm more likely to remember the entire makeup routine than her name. The will to leave the room evaporates from my body. Strolling around, I find a book in one of the drawers. It's old, and the cover has faded halfway. I know not to judge a book by its cover, but this book looks less appealing than a sandwich without filling. With nothing better to do, I decide to read it. It turns out to be a poetry anthology with different poems. Surprisingly, they're interesting. I read a few before dozing off.

“She’s ready. She’s just torturing me on purpose. She’s already your daughter.” He chuckles low. “Fair.” He reaches for the book on the coffee table. It’s old, leather-bound, the pages yellowed. Russian poetry. Pushkin, Akhmatova, some Tsvetaeva. He’s been reading it to my belly every evening for the last two weeks. Says it’s tradition, his mom used to read poetry to him when he was little, in Russian, and he wants Sandra to hear it too. Before she’s even born. He opens to a marked page. Clears his throat.

“For something. I don’t know what yet.” “You’re welcome to it.” They moved along the shelf. The city outside had settled into its late evening quiet. At one point a group passed on the pavement, laughing, audible through the glass before the sound faded. At the poetry section Delphine stopped. “Do you read poetry?” she said. “I live in a bookshop,” Sera said. “That’s not an answer.” “I read it the way I listen to music. Not to extract meaning. To be inside the sound of it.”

Neither of us mentioned it. “I didn’t realize you read poetry,” I said, sliding a thin book into place. “Occasionally,” he admitted. “Usually when I can’t sleep. There’s something… grounding about it.” “I get that,” I said, my fingers lingering on the spine of a weathered collection. “It’s like trying to make sense of feelings you can’t name.” He looked at me then, long enough that I felt my pulse shift. “Yeah,” he said quietly. “Exactly like that.”

He picks up one of the textbooks. He expresses, 'You've been doing some studying I see, unbelievable. But hey, with these books I must say you are on the right track.' I open my mouth to speak, but he beats me to it. 'Business is boring, you know that? Have you tried poetry?' I drop my hands on the desk, tilting my head. 'Poetry?' He nods, dropping the book back on the desk. He leans in, his eyes lingering on me. He speaks almost silently, his breath brushing my face in the process. 'Yes. I can recommend you some good poems to read...better still...we can go to the bookstore together this weekend.'

After heading inside, Damon picked out a few thick and boring books that were related to design for Celeste. "Is there anything else that you want?" "Poetry books. I like Edgar Poe, William Blake, and Pablo Neruda," Celeste said suddenly. Perhaps it was because they had just watched a play, Damon felt she was being a little emotional today. I could only assume that it had been left there by the previous occupant of the room. I had always enjoyed poetry. I sat down on the bed and began reading the book. The poetry was eloquently written and quite meaningful. I could feel the emotions of the writer dripping out of every line. One particular line stood out to me as I read:
