In the future, I’ll be stealing his clothes as often as I can. In the future. The words hit me in the chest. Does this mean I'm done planning to escape? I sigh, settling into the idea even more. “I’ve been thinking.” He paused, turning to face me with a look of interest. “About what?” “About us,” I said, feeling the weight of the words in my chest. “About what comes next.” For a moment, there was silence between us, thick and heavy. Stefan didn’t speak right away, but I could tell he was processing my words. His expression softened, his eyes never leaving mine. “What do you mean?” he asked, his voice low and calm. I took a deep breath, trying to steady myself. “I don’t know what the future holds, Stefan. I don’t know if we’re supposed to be something more than this... but I want to be open to it. I want to give this—whatever it is—a chance.”

The only thing holding her back was the fact that I was her future son-in-law. I scooped her up and placed her on my lap. A wave of pleasure instantly washed over me when I felt her on top of me. Victoria twisted and struggled. “What do you think you’re doing? I’m your future mother-in-law. This is so messed up.” Her body rubbed against mine as she struggled and writhed. That made me feel even more pleasure. I held her down firmly with one hand and slid the other along her neckline.

He'd seen past all of it, seen the person I was trying to become. "I'll treat you even better in the future," Dante promised, his voice thick with emotion. "I'll make sure you never doubt how much you mean to me. How much I care about you.” The word "future" echoed in my mind, and suddenly a dark thought crept in. A fear I hadn't wanted to acknowledge. “What if we have no future?” I asked. "Don't say that," Dante said sharply, his grip on my hand tightening. "Don't even think it."

I have to admit; when he talks about the future of us so vaguely with me it freaks me out. Yes I want a future with him, and I think he wants one with me, but we still haven't talked about what sort of future that would be. This all started with a six month contract; at the end of it would I be signing another? Does 'the future' mean forever or for the next little while until he gets bored of me? I want to buy into the fantasy that it's forever; that I could possibly be special enough to get the happy ending. But why would I get to live the good life when my past indicates that I will always be the bottom of the barrel.

Fresh cheers call out as Alex swoops in and claims my lips again, blurring everything else out, and as my tongue sweeps across his soft lips, I get a taste of my future. A future only worth living, if I am with him.
