I was down for a good gossip. “ Some have actually,” he sipped from his drink. “ That's in the past. I need the present,” I groaned, letting my head hand on the head rest of the chair. “ Don't you have a female neighbor in your apartment building that likes you?” “ Now that you've said it, there's one,” he recollected. “ Really!?” I gasped as I sat quickly into an upright position before leaning closer. A smile tugged at the corners of my lips.

Latika said and Ria nodded. I smiled at them and started talking about how I spent my weekend. I didn’t do much except spending it with Ri and Di. And in the middle I just kind of looked at him. I am starting to feel myself as some stalker or something. I still didn’t tell both of them that he is my neighbor too because they may think really bad of me. But after one month of this close friendship I don’t think I can hide it anymore. So I closed my eyes and said “He is my neighbor!”

My priority was to settle in the home and hospital. So I took a quick shower and reached the hospital and looked for my friend. She was waiting for me in the parking lot. We went upstairs and reported on duty. We were asked to go to a lecture theatre and wait. My friend and I were going there when I saw my new irritating neighbour. What was he doing here?? Must have come for the mental check-up?? I chuckled. I saw some man hugging him and saying that he loved him. They both were smiling and my neighbour said that he knows it well.

I keep my plan to keep my hands off her long enough to return to my apartment. We take a moment outside the front door as I find it difficult to get the keys out of my pocket before pressing myself against her back and kissing the nape of her neck. The soft scent of her perfume fills my senses, and all I can think about is removing her clothes. "Are we going inside or are we going to put on a show for your neighbors?" " she inquires.

I close the door and walk towards the entrance. “Look over there! It’s little Amber. Is she trying to get her friend’s money?” A voice spoke. A neighbor who lives one floor below me. “Shut up. You don’t know me. Go buy some cats and get a life. Stop bothering me,” I yell at her as I stomp my way in. In Front of my apartment door, a small bag filled with oranges. The only neighbor I like out of all the compound. I smile and walk to the door beside mine. I knock on the door as I hear small thumps coming from the inside.

" I didn't know to react. Excited, sad or what exactly? " That would be great."I said in a bored tone. Lauren hissed and pulled off her sandals. " You don't get it. The neighbors are hot boys! I have heard so much about them since few days ago." Still, I was not really interested. How many times will I tell her that I'm not after how 'cute or hot they might be.' Sometimes, I wonder how we became friends. " Got it. When are they packing in?" I asked to sound interested as I picked an apple from the fridge.

"You think it's gonna be that easy?" I laughed. "I know it's not gonna be easy and I know she hates me.. but I'm gonna be her nextdoor neighbor starting tonight.. anything can happen" I said with a smirk. * *

I requested softly, the truth of my discomfort evident. He nodded in understanding, but just as I was about to leave his office, he added. "I won't place this incident on your permanent record, considering your excellent academic performance." I expressed my gratitude and exited his office. After a two-hour drive, I finally arrived home. My neighbor, Mrs. Lance, greeted me at her door with a bright smile, although her eyes held unspoken questions. Once inside, I felt no appetite, yet hunger gnawed at me. I quickly made a sandwich and poured myself a glass of juice. After a few bites, I decided to head upstairs.

It is my only true companion. Wrapped in a silk robe, barefoot on the immense Persian rug, I have allowed myself the luxury of idleness. Facing the French windows open onto the terrace, I hear only the distant rustle of cypress trees and the song of a lingering bird. No laughter of friends, no sound of shared life. There have never been friends here. Only silent employees, fearful associates, and this immense void that neither money nor power has ever managed to fill.
