Lily was in the dark study once more, her fingers tracing the spines of old books, pretending to search for something casual. She had sneaked in the moment Brigs left for a late-night business meeting. She had precious little time. The desk. Brigs' massive oak desk rested like a throne of domination, its wood shining, its drawers closed up tight. Lily's hands hovered over the top drawer. Locked. As expected. Lily nods and then looks here and there before adding in a whisper, "Be careful in there. Some of the books are... interesting." Marisol couldn't contain her curiosity as they stepped into the library, surrounded by the rich scent of aged books and the whispers of knowledge. She turns to Lily, her eyes reflecting a hunger for understanding. "So, Lily," Marisol hums, testing the waters again. "If no one knows the exact details of the mission, how do they expect me to save your pack?"

Numbers? “What’s this?” She asked. “My bank account,” Misha muttered. “Don’t think I’d help for free.” She shoved another paper at her again. “Directions to the back door. That's the only way you're getting out. Go now.”

"Lily, it's a nice thought but-" Lily had reached the final page of the book and her face dropped. "No, there has to be something!" "Maybe it is just a fairytale-" "Wait." Lily had let the last page of the book fall and she frowned, staring at the back leather cover. "I need a knife," she murmured to herself and searched her pockets, pulling out a small blade. She then gently sliced along the edge of the back cover, creating an opening. "Fuck me," she whispered and pulled out what looked like an old piece of parchment.

Luckily, Lily dropped the subject and picked up another book, chuckling. “The Do It Yourself Guide to Biodiesel and Alternative Fuels? You have a wide range of tastes.” He smiled. “I guess I do.” He reached past her to straighten an uneven row of books then bit his lip. The motion had brought them even near, and damn, did she smell good. Judging by the way her breath hitched. Lily noticed him too. She didn’t move away, though. In fact, she shifted her weight to let their sides brush.

She stepped aside, gesturing for me to enter. “Please, come in.” The warmth of her home was a stark contrast to the coldness of my thoughts. The familiar scent of lavender lingered in the air, calming yet bittersweet. “I wasn’t expecting you,” Lily said as she placed the rose in a vase. “Not that I’m complaining.”
