I couldn’t help but smile. “They’re just worms,” I commented as I casually hook one onto my pole. “Exactly,” she muttered, still staring the tub down. “Worms. If I’d have known we’d be using real live worms, I …” She shuddered. “I hate worms.” I smirked. “They’re just worms, baby. You need them to hook the fish.” “I know that.” She finally looked up at me. “I just wish I didn’t have to need them.”

Closing the closet, Meryl walked to the bed, her breath coming out shallow because of anger. She brushed the edge of the heavy tapestry of the bed and ambled to the side table and then to the long table. She saw several glass bowls and found that all of them were empty. Dark red stains spotted their bottoms. Several thick syringes were strewn across the table. She picked up a bowl and smelled it and immediately recoiled. This was what stank of rotten lemons. “Yuck!” What were these, she wondered putting back the bowls. She rubbed her finger in one of the bowls and found that it was very sticky. She smelled it again and then with another “Yuck”, she wiped her finger on the edge of the table.

The warriors immediately ran into the woods, towards the meeting point where Mark was waiting for them. The old wolf hears a whooshing coming from the sewer. I stared at the little wriggling creatures for a second, my smile faltering just slightly. That wasn’t good. Later, she gave the Golden Worm to Alberto. When she was captured, the Venomous Worm was in its dormant period and was enclosed in a sealed bamboo tube, thus not being effective.

The moist surface squished under the impact, a sound that turned my stomach. “Bloody snake?” I asked, my voice barely above a whisper. “Do you know where we are?” I searched the darkness for something—anything—that would give me an answer. The faint light of the worms revealed nothing but the same fleshy expanse I had seen before. Then, something caught my eye. Two worms had stopped crawling. They faced each other, their mouths opening wide like serpents ready to devour prey. Before I could react, the larger worm lunged, swallowing the smaller one whole. Its body doubled in size instantly, wobbling as it digested its meal before shrinking back to normal.

It was like the worst punishment possible where we had to pick out the icky worms with our bare fingers and then give them to the farmers but the worst part was when the worms would keep crawling in our closed fists before we put them in a box and those itchy sensations would stay for the next 2 days making us feel as if we still had worms in our fists !!! Gross !! The only silver lining out of that eww punishment was when we kept a few worms for my dear fathers to suddenly pop out of their pastries when they least suspected it.
