I repeated for what felt like the hundredth time, waiting for some kind of explanation. He only muttered softly, “Surprise.” I was still speechless, still in shock at the transformed space, when my phone pinged. A text from an inconspicuous, unknown number.

I chirped as I dramatically removed the hood I’d been wearing before stepping a couple of feet in front of him. Taken aback, his face visibly pale after realizing who I am. “Surprise!” •••

And so we both kiss for the first time as husband and wife. When Travis and I finally break up and face people once again everyone is still yelling and clapping at us, even the ones who disapproved of our relationship at first. Yes, we have come a long way since this year, no… last year. Last year, Travis's kiss was a huge surprise to everyone, including me, so it is only appropriate to celebrate this New Year, our first anniversary, with another surprise ... a wedding. A week ago... After tearing the wrapping paper off my last Christmas present and looking inside the box, I shoot Travis a look of complete and utter surprise.

Ivanna was now at peace and she conquered the love she wanted from her husband, Ash. "Zeke, what is it." Ivy said. Zeke blindfolded her to his surprise. "Zeke, I hate surprises." she said and he laughed. "Come on, don't destroy the moment." he said. Ivy just held on tight on his hand, she was afraid of falling and tripping. She was very excited about his surprise. "Okay, we're here." he said. Zeke took off the blindfold and told her to open her eyes slowly.

The room explodes with a unified shout of "Surprise!" Michal and Sabrina stand momentarily mute, their expressions a captivating blend of shock, delight, and realization. Their eyes dance around the room, taking in each familiar face, every strand of decoration. Then Sabrina starts to cry..

Her expression was priceless as she took in the decorations, the balloons, the table laden with food, and of course, the cake that proudly announced her birthday. “Happy Birthday, Alex!” we cheered, our voices mingling in joyous celebration. She gasped, her eyes wide with disbelief. “Oh my god! You guys! This is amazing!” As the reality of the surprise sank in, she beamed with happiness, her face glowing under the lights. I could see how much this meant to her, and my heart swelled with pride at having pulled it off. “I can’t believe you did all this! I had no idea!” she exclaimed, her hands covering her mouth in disbelief.

The eerie silence had me exchanging a curious glance with Roman. As we reached the arena's entrance, I stepped through the doorway first, and suddenly, a thunderous shout of "SURPRISE!" filled the air. My heart plummeted through my chest, leaving me breathless and shocked. I leapt backward, my eyes wide with surprise, before erupting into hysterical laughter. The arena was packed with familiar faces, all of whom were grinning from ear to ear, clearly thrilled to have pulled off such an epic surprise.

His grin widens as he watches me with amusement written all over his face. I can't hide my surprise and shock as I open my mouth and exclaim loudly in disbelief. "You again!"

SIX MONTHS LATER VIOLET A widely known fact about me: I don’t like surprises. I’m jumpy. I make unholy noises. My face gets beet red, and my body gets hot and tingly, and sometimes I feel like I’ve run out of air. Unfortunately, that combination is the perfect reaction for people who do like surprises. Which is why I’ve spent my life being surprised. Birthday parties, jump-scares, visitors I wasn’t expecting… People love to see the dramatic reaction, and I seem unable to help but give it to them.
