My Surprise Novels & Stories

I couldn’t read her expressions and thoughts. Anyway, I decided to shift my mind away from that. “I have a surprise for you, Aurora,” I said. And I watched her face get filled with a shock she couldn’t hold back or keep in.

he cut in, in a much softer tone now, a hint of surprise lacing his words, as he stepped closer to me. I hesitated at first, unsure of what would come after he realizes I was exactly what he asked. Then I nodded slowly, feeling my face burn with embarrassment. His eyes widened, and for the first time, I saw real surprise in his expression. “Unbelievable!” He voiced.

“What do you mean this… this will be mine?” I couldn’t believe it. Couldn’t process it. Couldn’t even find the right emotion to wear—shock, awe, gratitude, confusion—they all hit me at once, leaving me trembling inside. And yet he just stood there, calm and collected, as though what he had just said wasn’t the most insane, generous, and surreal thing I had ever heard in my life. “Surprise.” He said, his lips curling into a smile for the first time since the past few days. It was unbelievable.

I shook it close to my ear, wondering what might be in there. Warmth spread in my heart like the sun melting frost. “Hope this isn’t some type of bomb.” I threw a skeptical gaze at him. “With me beside you?” Massimo inquired with the tilt of his head. I didn’t realize how much I liked surprises until now. Every inch of me buzzed with a certain kind of energy and excitement. I unwrapped my present to a sight of an iPhone box. Finally! My stomach did a happy little flip, and I kicked my legs in the air as joy fizzed through me.

And then, she flashed me a radiant grin, a million-dollar smile that seemed to light up the entire surroundings. My heart skipped a beat, and I felt a sudden, inexplicable flutter in my chest. I was taken aback, my composure momentarily shaken. "What the fuck?" I muttered aloud, the words escaping my lips in a mixture of surprise and bewilderment, as I struggled to process the unexpected spark that had just ignited within me.

I was startled by the sudden burst of light that flooded the space. I squinted as my eyes adjusted, trying to make sense of the scene in front of me. And then, the crowd erupted into cheers and shouted, "Surprise! Happy Birthday!' I stood frozen, unable to comprehend what was happening. It took me a moment to realize that this surprise party was for me. Me, whose birthday had always been just another ordinary day. Me, who had never had a reason to celebrate or expect anything special on this day ever since the death of my parents. In the past years, I'd know it's my birthday if either I get a birthday message from Ava or she'd wake me up early in the morning with a birthday song, and a birth

~Lyra~ Surprise. Surprise. Surprise. The word was bouncing around in my skull like it was a drumbeat, like someone had taken a hammer and nailed it to the inside of my head. Surprise? No. No, this wasn’t a surprise. A surprise is someone bringing you cake on your birthday. A surprise is a fucking gift bag. This was a nightmare wearing a party hat, and I was the guest of honor chained to the chair while everyone laughed at me. I kept replaying her words over and over.
