There were splotches of white skin around her mouth, left eye, down her neck, and on both arms that she’d once told me was due to a skin condition called Vitiligo. I’d found the two contrasts in colors interesting as a young teen, and Delphine had been more than happy to educate me.

But Suzanne’s gaze was not on the red marks, it was on the black spot that had formed in the middle of her palm. It’s getting worse, she told herself. The black spot had appeared 2 months ago, after her battle with the black mist. At first, she had thought nothing of it, after all, it was just a tiny little dot. She had gone to see old man Hendricks and he had told her there was nothing to worry about. Suzanne had known old man Hendricks since she was a little girl and he had never once lied to her. But then the pain came and the black mark started to spread, very much like how the root of a tree would grow. She rubbed her palms together and stood up. She had to talk to her grandmother.

I developed a serious itch on my left lower back, almost reaching the start of my b*tt. I'd thought it was an infection or something I had picked up somewhere. But yesterday, the itching almost drove me mad, I had scratched it so much, my claws breaking the skin, causing the area to bleed from the unfair irritation. By evening it had looked like a bad sore, all blotchy red with some swelling, blood and pus from my incessant scratching. It changed color depending on which way it was turned as well. Almost as if it were reflecting light. Tagan leaned forward. He licked his thumb and rubbed it over the poison. His brow furrowed when he lifted his thumb away and the black swirls were still there. He reached out, grabbed my wrist and started rubbing at my skin like he was trying to rub it all away. Maybe he thought if it disappeared, I would disappear with it.
