That's when my belief system began to get challenged. Ever since his arrival three months ago, my wife had become cold, short-tempered, and not very nice around the house. She blamed it on stress at work, but I felt there was more to the story. I tried my best to be a good husband, being patient, bringing home flowers, trying to plan date nights to her favorite places, and tried to understand her concerns.

“We?” “Yes, we,” she said with quiet conviction. “Because whether you like it or not, this marriage—fake or not—makes us a team. Maybe my mom? I shiver, running through the house to find some warmer clothes to wear and to get my mind off of thinking about my mother. That's a place I haven't wanted to go for years, and definitely a place I don't want to go tonight. Glancing through my chest of drawers, I see I have nothing to keep me warm for temperatures like this. A testament to how few nights we have this cold. "I guess that's what I have a husband for." I shrug as I go over to his closet and open the door.

His wife's cardigan appeared to be too thin, so he took the initiative to remove his coat and asked his wife to stack the garments with his coat. "It's too big, and you'll catch a cold if you give it to me," she resisted. He shook his head, shifted his weight, sat behind her with his legs wide apart, and motioned for his wife to lean on his chest. "As long as you're here to warm my heart, I won't feel cold."

If we wait, will there be time for a wedding? I let my thoughts shift to the last couple of days and our thoughts on the wedding while I curl up in front of the fireplace and watch Jax through the window. Watching the cold air brush against his skin makes me shiver, and at the same time it’s one of the hottest things I’ve seen.
