He cut off, shaking his head like the words themselves were poison.
“Beg?” I whispered, tracing bloody crescents across his back.
His silence was the answer.
We lay there, tangled and trembling, the air thick with sweat, blood, and the faint shimmer of whatever I had become. Kael didn’t move for a long time. When he finally lifted his head, his golden eyes burned with something I had never seen from him before.
Not rage.
Not lust.
Not even hunger.
Reverence.
It vanished quickly, buried beneath a snarl, but I had seen it. Felt it.
