Mated To My Captor
The signal appears at 2:47 in the morning, two bars flickering in the upper corner of my screen, and my phone comes alive all at once, notifications stacking on top of each other in a cascade of buzzing against the floorboards. I'm sitting with my back against the wall of the storage unit I found two blocks into the Ruins, a corrugated metal place that smells like motor oil and old cardboard, and I've been watching the zero-bar icon for three hours waiting for exactly this. The notifications are mostly from the compound's group channels, access I still apparently have, and underneath all of them, near the bottom of the stack, a text from Leo sent at 11:43 PM.
