Rosa's POV: I couldn't sleep well last night,I kept turning and tossing in bed.I was a nervous wreck and today was my first clinic day.Checking the time it's still five in the morning and I knew I couldn't go back to sleep. I didn't notice a small figure beside me,that's when I remembered Elle slept over in my room.I decided to internet surf for a while since I could not fall back asleep. I went through my I*******m only to see a photo of Laura but with the caption wife to be.

She tore open her own palm, letting her black blood drip onto an ancient altar stone at the cliff's edge that had been hidden beneath the snow all along. "I may lose tonight, Inka," the woman whispered as her body slowly began to crack into shards of black ice. "But my blood has activated the final phase. The moon's eclipse in the sky has shifted... You don't have two more nights. The eclipse... is happening tonight as well." We all simultaneously looked up at the sky. Up above, the pure crescent moon that had just been cleared of fog suddenly began to be eroded by a reddish-black shadow from its edge at an unnatural speed. The night of the blood eclipse had arrived far sooner.

The bond between us, between me and the land, tightened, then pulled, as if something unseen had hooked itself into the marrow of the world and was drawing it open. I stepped out onto the balcony, the night air sharp against my skin. The moon hung low above the treetops… but it was wrong. Its light was dimmed, smothered beneath a creeping veil of shadow that crawled across its face like ink spilled in water. Stars winked out one by one. The sky darkened, not into night, but into something deeper. Older. A Black Moon. The first one since I could remember. My breath caught painfully in my chest.

Elena fell backward onto the altar, her head smashing against the iron crest as the high-tension static from the stranger's device short-circuited her remaining sight, turning her world into a blur of weeping grey. Through the haze, she heard the heavy, rhythmic clanking of a massive iron portcullis opening in the rock wall directly beneath the altar—not an automated Council gate, but an ancient, manual door that had been sealed for three centuries. Out from the darkness of the hidden passage stepped a small, cloaked figure wielding a short, black-steel dager that carried the distinct, freezing musk of the Nightshade pack’s old executioners.

I put both hands on the trunk and close my eyes, listening for my familiars. “Oh, Dark Master,” I start once I feel them getting closer. “I call you forth to…to…meet another willing child of night.” I step away from the tree, turn around, and hold my hands up. Maybe I can hit Ruth with an energy ball now. Knock her out and get back to the Covenstead. Kristy is all the proof I need to show I’m innocent and Ruth is the guilty one. She used an illegal potion on an innocent member of the coven.

The Night of the Gala The night of the Blackwood Gala arrived sooner than expected. Claire stood in front of the full-length mirror in Adrian’s penthouse, her breath hitching as she took in the image before her. A black silk gown hugged her curves, the plunging neckline and open back making it clear—she was not the same woman who had been cast aside three years ago. She was stronger now. Sharper. More dangerous. A voice from behind made her pulse spike. “You look lethal.” Claire turned, meeting Adrian’s gaze. He stood in the doorway, dressed in a tailored black tux, his eyes dark and unreadable.

Even as a child I was one of the few that could see his aura. His grandfather arrived shortly after, scattering the children in fear. And from that moment forward, my world shifted. He brought me home. No longer Daya No Last Name, I became Daya Blackclaw — granddaughter to the Alpha of Blackclaw Pack, a pack famed for its powerful bloodlines. But Night was different. An anomaly. Unnaturally strong and fast, even before his first shift. Grandfather Jacob made it clear the moment I arrived that I was to remain by Night’s side at all times, even when he didn't want me around.

The first frost of the season arrived before sunrise. A delicate layer of silver covered the rooftops of Blackthorn, shimmering beneath the pale light of dawn. The gardens sparkled as if countless stars had fallen from the heavens during the night, settling gently upon every flower, every blade of grass, and every branch of the ancient willow trees. The city stirred awake slowly. Smoke curled from chimneys as families gathered around breakfast tables. The bells of the newly restored clock tower echoed through the valley, marking the beginning of another ordinary day—a sound that had once been impossible to imagine.

The sun dipped below the horizon, and the first stars began to twinkle in the twilight sky. Adrian's heart pounded in his chest as he pushed forward, the scent growing stronger with each step. He reached a small grove of ancient oaks, their gnarled branches forming a protective canopy overhead. There, bathed in the soft glow of the rising moon, stood a figure. Covered in a black cloak. She turned to face him, her eyes sparkled but she covered her face. His eyes widened with surprise and recognition. Adrian's breath caught in his throat. She was as alluring as a dream, her presence radiating warmth and strength.

I sent over mind-link, earning a mental huff in response. As I watched Blakely dance, her eyes never once leaving the crowd, I absentmindedly unfolded my slip of paper, wondering if there were a clue I might’ve missed. Anything to help me identify her would-be attacker. The moment my eyes skimmed the page, a burst of black ink unfurled across its surface. It read: Here is a clue to aid you on your hunt: “Their mask is dark, the blackest of all night, Caging souls who thrash and fight.
