That's it, I am backing out of telling him anything.” “Touché.” Naomi blew her gum and burst it. “Let's get in first, that's our first priority.” Naomi had her eyes covered in eyeshadow and her lips painted red. The woman liked to wear heavy make-up. Which somehow always suited her with her black sleek hair. Naomi wasn't a natural black-haired but knew how to rock one as if she was born with it. She was a blond girl like Paige and while Naomi was tall and on the slim side. Paige was petite and curvy.

Her tone softened slightly, though her gaze was sharp and appraising. I bowed politely. “I’m Nova, ma’am. I work here—” “Oh, I know,” she said, with a small, knowing smile that somehow unsettled me. “I’ve heard of you. The boy’s new… friend. I like you already, dear.” I blinked, surprised. Even in her anger, there was something charming about her approval. Frederick, however, looked mortified. “Mother, please—” he began, but she ignored him, striding through the living hall with unrestrained energy.

I said. Naomi chuckled without humor. “Ashamed? Of what? Using what I have to get what I want?” She moved to the window, her silk robe dragging along the floor. Then she added, “No, honey. I’m not ashamed. I’m strategic. And don’t forget, at least you’re doing it for me.”

When she was done she picked up her phone and hesitated for a while before giving Alpha Barom his reply and then she fell asleep. ******** The next morning. Naomi woke up feeling happy and excited for what the day would bring. She decided to stop living like a shadow and do what her heart wanted. She took her bath and dressed up. When she was done, she wanted to step out of the room, then she realized she's not been using any of her girly stuff. She sat in front of the mirror and applied little make up on her face. When she was done, she looked at her face in the mirror and she was satisfied to see how good she looked.

“Auntie Julie”, she cried with tears threatening to spill from her bright eyes. “I don’t want to go to that school anymore!” Julie made the monumental decision to be the guardian of her late sister Mara’s beautiful daughter when she died shortly after giving birth to Hannah. I immediately recognized her as the lady Jace proposed to last night. But what was she doing here? "Nova, darling," she chirped. "I heard you……almost died. I just had to come and see for myself. I never got the chance to introduce myself so I'll do it now. I'm Naomi Quinn, Jace’s assistant.” And then it dawned on me, that all those late-night calls and excuses of scolding the rude assistant were just pretense. And to think it was the same Naomi I had been calling to have little talks with and also help with work to ease Jace's stress made me realize the level of stupidity I had shown them.
