Just as he knelt beside her and got to work, her eyes flickered to me and for a moment, I saw a hint of vulnerability and defeat in them. I kept my eyes on her, wanting to tell her that I’m sorry for hurting her, but I couldn’t because this was the competition, and I couldn’t show any signs of weakness.
