Maybe it was something about the caged animal, but Nathan did not like being put in a small room with someone untrustworthy. Nina took the other bed and did the same to her shoes. She hauled her own backpack on the bed and reached inside. Nathan growled again at her actions, feeling uneasy again. “Calm down there, I was just getting my tablet,” she said as she pulled out a small, thin device and started tapping away at it.

A grumble came from inside. "Nico?" A sleepy voice called from within. "Is that you?" Nico. I knew that name. Nico didn't live in squalor on the edge of the woods. Nico was one of Nate's closest friends, he lived in the luxury of White Castle. The door swung open, the rogue stuck her bleary face through a crack. "Hi," I grinned forcing the door open and pushing my way in. Shelves lined every wall. Bottles of herbs and oils were piled on top of each other. Dusty books lay in piles in corners and covered counters. A small black cauldron sat on the stove.

The orange color of dusk filtered into the big, quiet house through the windows of Nate’s mansion. Nate himself was sitting in a low armchair in the guest room, elbows resting heavily on his knees, while his hands were holding a glowing tablet. His frame was slouched forward while his sleeves were rolled to his elbows. His brows were drawn tight as he stared into the screen. There were no two ways about it….whatever he looked at, it wasn’t good. On the screen were photos.

NATHAN was seated in the corner of the lounge, his phone resting face-up on the small glass table in front of him. A half-empty mug of lukewarm coffee sat beside it, forgotten hours ago. He was leafing through some household accounts on his tablet, trivial things that suddenly felt so weightless in this house that hadn’t known peace in days. This he did every morning since his boss wasn't leaving for the office again.

“Step out? At midnight? Dressed like you’re trying to blend in with the shadows?” I gave a nervous laugh. “Yeah. Uh… I ran out of snacks. Supermarket run.” Mira blinked. “At this hour?” “There’s a 24-hour place a few blocks down,” I offered weakly, already feeling the heat rise to my cheeks. Natalie folded her arms, looking far too suspicious. “We’ve been out here looking for Noah. We just got back from the east side. We thought we had a lead, but it was nothing.” “I’m sorry,” I said quietly.

WRAITH’S POV Rex was… occupied. The moans and pants from the inner room told me that, and unfortunately, the door was unlocked. The beep on my phone notified me of the message just received. It was from Nico Valentino, the rogue wolf and well-known drug dealer. He was interested in one of the pack’s properties which was on sale—an estate on the outskirts of Seattle. After responding to his message, I returned the phone to my pocket, just in time to see Natasha walk out of the room.

He may be even more stressed if I asked about his cousin. "Hmmm. I doubt it.' "There's nothing wrong with drinking and eating once here outside.
