Chapter 19: The Bait The gala ballroom glittered like a cage made of gold and crystal. Massive chandeliers hung from the ceiling casting sparkling light across the marble floor. Silk gowns in every shade of luxury whispered as guests moved between groups. Champagne flowed freely from fountains. Laughter and music filled the air but beneath it all was the sharp edge of power and danger. This was Victor Marchetti’s event. He had invited the elite of the underworld and the legitimate world alike. And I had walked straight into it.
