We arrived late, and the youth dormitory was already full, so Sarah and I were housed with Nutty. Nutty's surname was Walters, and his given name was Nathan, though his formal name was chosen to match the pronunciation of his childhood nickname. In rural areas, there was a custom of giving boys deliberately crude names to ward off evil spirits and help them survive to adulthood.

She then asked. I shrugged. "Maybe? To be honest, I'm still getting used to the idea of having two sets of family histories to draw from now." I told her. A shadow passed over Viola's face, there and gone so quickly I almost missed it. But before I could dwell on it, Bree was off and running with suggestions. "Ooh, what about nature names? Like Lily or... oh! Willow! That would be so pretty." She suggested again, never getting tired.
