Back through the entrance from which we had come, I could see a small, square room of terracotta and cream to the right of the staircase, a small column rising in the middle of a cracked mosaic floor. I knew lots of immortals had served in wars. There have always been a few humans who knew about us and were willing to make use of our special abilities.
