If I wanted to cut my losses, the only option was to write something new, fast. I sat down at my desk, cleared my head, and gripped my pen. Four hours of typing, obviously with breaks in between them and I'm trying to read over and edit what I have written. My mind immediately went to Arielle and Grayson. Usually that lines up perfectly with the scheduled chapters running out, so it works.

I felt his gaze but didn't turn back. Space. I needed space. I hurried inside, straight to the shower as anxiety crept up my spine—not from Phoenix (though dangerously attractive, I knew his game), but from breaking my routine. The unplanned swim had disrupted my carefully structured sanity. After washing off chlorine, I changed and returned to work, pulling my sketchbook from the drawer. The current drawing—a wheelchair-bound man—was part of my writing process, helping visualize characters and scenes. Eventually, I'd choose an illustration for the book cover.

His handwriting was atrocious, but it was his brain being flooded with dopamine that made the words on the paper seem illegible. “I was thinking of doing a series,” he managed to say, looking over at Finn and trying to grab onto the wisps of the idea that had been swirling around in his brain.
