I’d be getting a new line anyway. I wasn’t bringing the past with me. I boarded the jet. And with that, I stepped into a new beginning.

But for the first time in a long time, the future didn’t seem so daunting. It wasn’t just a fresh start. It was a new beginning.

But in the distance, faint but unmistakable, a new pulse began not a drumbeat, but a whisper, soft and insidious, from a place beyond the horizon. It wasn’t the unmaking. It was something new. And it knew their names.

--- The Future I didn't know what the future held. There would be challenges. There would be pain. There would be obstacles. But there would also be joy. There would be love. There would be growth. I was ready for all of it. Because I had my family. My friends. My mate. I had my life. And it was beautiful. --- A New Beginning One morning, I woke up with a strange feeling. Something was different. I got out of bed. Walked to the window. Looked outside. The world looked the same. But something felt different.

This is indeed a new beginning but I have no idea whether it is going to be a good beginning or a sad one filled with nothing but sorrow. ****

I stuffed the last piece of clothing into the suitcase and snapped it shut, then I looked around the apartment. Having lived here for five years, my presence was everywhere, from the paintings on the walls to the throw pillows on the couch and the plants on the balcony. Now, those very details felt like a cruel joke. I wheeled my suitcase toward the living room and paused to look at the calendar. New Year’s Day was tomorrow. A fresh start and a brand-new year. Without hesitation, I reached for my phone and reserved a seat on the first high-speed train heading to Cedar Hollow, my hometown.

No! Just then another man came in. He grinned at me. “Let’s get started, but I’d go first.” He said rubbing his palm together and licking his lips. I began crying out loud. They came up to me. Just then a man came out of nowhere. Let’s just say he beat the crap out of them. I passed out.

Those who hurt her got what they deserved. And she, too, was ready to start a new life. I took care of her with the utmost care, making sure I understood her feelings. At the beginning of the new year, I gathered my courage and proposed to her. The custom-made engagement ring fit perfectly on her finger—it looked beautiful. I worked even harder to be good to her, and she tried her best to respond in kind. But healing doesn’t happen overnight. I’m willing to wait. I’ll wait until my girl fully accepts me, until she regains that pure happiness she once had.

*******"* My alarm on my phone announced a new day before my eyes saw it. With that, my eyes just bowed to its defeat as it arose at my command to start a new day. Yesterday night was filled with uncertainty, as I couldn't provide answers to such uncertain questions. I try to wave off such thoughts since I'm beginning a new day. With that new initiative, I showered up and prepared myself to Benta's & Co. As usual, I ordered a cab that took me there, and I did the settlement at the gate before entering the company. The company felt new as I tried to adjust to the company proper. From the reception hall, I made my way straight into my office.

The New Girl The new girl arrived on Monday. God. And from the moment she arrived— everything changed. Fair. Absolutely everything. Reasonable honestly. Nobody expected it. God. Not Adrian. Fair. Not Elena. Reasonable. Definitely not Lily. God. The morning started normally. Fair. Peanut was chasing bubbles. Reasonable. Or attempting to eat bubbles. God. The usual. Fair. Meanwhile Lily was drawing beside the terrace. Reasonable honestly. Life felt peaceful again.
