Most settlements were destroyed this way as my grandmother told me, leaving only three large cities in the entire world, the Hawks which is around Asia, Haven Point in Africa and A****n in America; which is where I and Elsa stay. The rest of the world is dead, more like a forgotten desert with little or no presence of plant life or water. In A****n, we are all expected to belong to a particular group from age eighteen. Elsa and I turned eighteen a few weeks ago and we have to take the final test that will earn us spots in the Foraging group among the Farmers. We have been attending lessons all our lives and today we will no longer be students but working adults. We walk confidently to the Tr

Jocelyn glanced at him in surprise. Abel added in a hissy manner, “You don’t have to look at me like that. I’ve guessed as much. Dan and Moore the Second are at odds with one another. Moore the Second and Jim opened up a game company at the beginning of the year and created several small games. Unexpectedly, those small games became more and more popular and within six months, Dan’s game company had been overtaken.

I tell her. … .. After freshening up, Garrett and I head to the basement while Lena stays in the kitchen to help. “Oh Fuck. This is neat… ” Garrett says, as I set up the PlayStation. “Dude! Please exchange it with my game cube,” he adds, and I laugh. “This is the newest one. It just came out last week,” I say, showing Garrett a game CD cover. “Anything you show is new to me. Let’s play,” he says, settling in on the couch next to me.

My reflection stares back—a girl who looks like she should be crying over a broken heart, not planning how to dismantle a goddamn death game from the inside out. Perfect Clear. Two of them. The System had to make a spectacle of it. A bitter laugh escapes my lips. “Should’ve seen that coming. Nothing’s ever quiet with you, is it?” I’m talking to the empty room, to the unseen architecture of the Game. It doesn’t answer. It just watches. My new phone glows on the coffee table. Sleek, transparent, cold to the touch. The Game’s welcome gift for surviving your first Instance. Your leash and your lifeline, all in one. It buzzed once already.

It made her lonely. “You want to play video games?” “Video games?” “Yeah, I got the new game called Demonyo* where you can choose a mage, a fighter, a deadeye, a rebel, and a wizard as your main character.” “You did? I heard about the game coming out, but I totally forgot about it.” “I just got it this morning, and I haven’t even opened the package yet. You want to play it together?” She asked like a kid wanting to open her Christmas present. Owen could not decline.

Then, the explanation began. "To push boundaries and bring something new to Ashenford, we decided to use the latest DC steel from the country of Mirelia. It's incredibly strong, never rusts, and doesn't deform. It gives a futuristic edge…" Once the explanation was finished, they revealed a physical model—clearer and more lifelike than the 3D renderings. Their design, a massive ferris wheel called The Ashenford Eye, towered over all other buildings in the city.

* *"Killian has completely lost it. Anyone who goes in now is just feeding the meat grinder." I didn't cry. My tears had run dry long ago. I took the phones of all my dead relatives and pooled their remaining points into my account. A total of 90 points. I looked at the items in the System Store: [Peerless Beauty]? Useless. [Infinite Wealth]? Useless. [Invincible Strength]? Also useless. As long as you are an "Outsider," as long as you are there to "conquer" him, you are his enemy.

‘Aleksis Agustus, Chief Executive of Octagon Solutions’ How shameless of her husband to say he was fired from a company he owns? A flicker of excitement rushed into her eyes. All these years, Sierra has tried to dismiss the world she grew up in. The rush and hunger for danger were pulsing through her heartbeat. The same way it would always do whenever she was given a task. There was no need to ask who would play this game better. She knew damn well who would be a better player. All she had to do now was plan her way to make Alek feel like winning, and just when he got a hold of the trophy, she’d sneak in and snatch victory away from him. Maybe kill him. Well, that would be optional.

They must have known why did they get me in the dark? I was upset this morning when I saw that the new tech company that has been my biggest rival for the last few months had overtaken my game at the number one position. The storyline is just not good enough in the game. And the gameplay is not as good as the previous games in the series. Everybody is still talking about the first game I did with Olivia. The second game in the series did not do that badly, but it was still not as good as the first one that Olivia helped me with. We continued the series as everybody followed the game sequence like a cult. Now the game is just not good enough. The new company has brought out a better game, and

Forgive me? I love you. L. He smirked. "Looks like you got a package." "Clearly you doofus." George said, shaking his head. "What's in the box?" Tom cleared his throat. "Uhh..." He stuffed the note in his pocket. "This." He lifted up his new game. "Is that Forza?" The other guy was ready to get up. "Horizon three?" "That's it. Go look at the pretty package and leave my high score alone." Tom nodded. "Really? It is?"
