[Nowo's POV] What is much harder than a simple labyrinth? It is the mind's labyrinth. You're walking on an unknown path while your mind is also solving a puzzle, thinking about the right direction to go. You are surrounded by huge walls, unable to see what is waiting for you every time you turn left or right. The thought of 'maybe there are some kinds of monsters here' continuously bothers me as I look for a possible way that will guide me to the sixth tree. I was walking really fast without even noticing the man in front of me.

As the holograph faded, the crystal reflected my calm visage as I replied, "All the best." Once I sent it, I put the link crystal on the windowsill—I didn't need it anymore. Returning to bed, I closed my eyes and composed myself, my wolf fang locket pressing against my collarbone, its warmth unfurling in the silence. My mind was clear. Tomorrow, during the new moon, while Daniel was left awkwardly at the altar, I shall leave from the rundown eastern aqueducts, where Lulu and my old pack would pick me up. The moonlight was leaving a cool shade on the floorboards, and I waited for dawn—for total freedom. My freedom.

Instead, a tall maze of steel and vines stood at the center, stretching into the trees beyond. A trial of instinct and survival. The rules were simple. Find your way out before sundown. No weapons. No help. The catch? You weren’t alone in the maze. Mara touched my arm before I stepped forward. “This isn’t about speed. It’s about endurance.” I nodded, tightening my ponytail. “I’ve got both.” She smiled. “Then go show them what a rogue can do.” I entered the maze last. The second I stepped in, the shadows swallowed everything. The air was thicker here, laced with magic or memory—I couldn’t tell.

The maze seems to respond to our presence, the walls shifting and rearranging themselves to create a clear path forward. As we journey deeper into the labyrinth, we can feel a growing presence, a malevolence that permeates the air. Shadows clung to us, whispering taunts and threats that test our resolve. But Jericho and I remain steadfast, our connection unbreakable. Finally, we reach the heart of the labyrinth, a chamber bathed in an otherworldly light. At its center stands a colossal door adorned with ancient symbols and glyphs. The door pulses with an enchantment, beckoning us to unlock its secrets.

Hazel said and she snapped out of her thoughts. “ Once... Just once I felt that spark ” She said and Hazel smiled. “ We're here ” She said as they finally stopped in front of the tall huge flowers and thick bushes. “ What's this? ” Muna asked. “ It's a maze and a very big and wide one ” Hazel said and Muna’s eyes widened as her lips parted a little. “ A maze for real, ” She said. “ Yes...Never seen one before ? Hazel asked and Muna shook her head, still fascinated by the beautiful huge maze in front of her.

Without sounds to go on, I breathed in deeply through my nose and picked up the scent of two pups and a human female. I walked into the maze, where the tall hedges instantly disoriented me. I stood for a moment to get used to it and then walked forward, unwillingly thinking about that scene in The Shining where Jack hunts through the maze for Danny. Man, when I was a kid that movie scared the shit out of me.

Thorne. He trotted through the maze at a steady pace, ears flicking as he paused to assess the shifting paths. Ember’s eyes widened as she realized parts of the maze moved, not all of it, but in sections, open pathways sealing off while closed ones opened at random. No wonder he has this here. It’s a challenge, a mental exercise. Dorothea quietly put away the dresses and accessories, stealing occasional glances at Ember. When she finished, she approached hesitantly.

It is better to go unnoticed as if it were a shadow. I go through the undergrowth that lines the street, careful not to make noise. I move quickly to go to the head of the caravan. Then we come to a camp with several tents. The marchers line up waiting to be seen. Apparently, Einar is so desperate for the Outcasts to fill his dungeon that even at this hour they have personnel available to recruit them.

It burned going down, but the effect was instant—like a cool thread weaving through the storm inside me. “Ready?” she asked. I nodded. The runes flared to life, and the Gate’s surface rippled like molten glass. A low hum filled the chamber, building into a deep, resonant tone that made my bones ache. Aaron stepped closer. “I’ll keep the link open. If I say your name, you answer. Got it?” “Got it,” I whispered. And then, I stepped forward. The world folded in on itself. When I opened my eyes again, I was standing in a wasteland of glass and ash. The sky above me was cracked—fragments of light and darkness shifting like shards of a shattered mirror. Its eyes opened. Coal-bright. The same hunger as the tracker. But smaller. Newer. A seed. Mara’s smile went serene. “Behold,” she whispered. “The Cageborn.” The runes on the walls flared so bright the chamber flashed copper-white. The cageborn shivered, then turned its head directly toward me. Toward my mark. It smiled. Not with a mouth. With intention. My pendant cracked again in my fist, and a thin line of light leaked out—like it was dying, or waking.
