It is something we feared – vampires, witch, fae and werewolves alike. With a whimper I stand, shaking my fur out as the scent of burnt skin fills my sense. Quietly I pad towards the spot I awoke in and sit in the center, waiting for when my cage will be opened, most likely at the start of The Run. Judging by the moon, tomorrow night will be when it takes place, sooner then I hoped but sadly, it will happen no matter what.

Because she knows that although everyone here has organized it together, Imogen is the only one behind all this. Imogen smirked with a strange gaze in his eyes, that was hard for Maze to read. Maze shifted her gaze and again got busy observing the whole decoration trying to avoid the situation. Maze unpacked the candy floss in her hand and stuffed some in her mouth. As the easily melted candy floss spread in her mouth, a storm of joy swept over her mind. "Such complicated character he is," Maze mumbled to herself taking a quick glance at Imogen. She was so busy enjoying the candy floss that she didn’t even notice the act of Imogen.

My stomach lurched violently. "Let's keep moving," I gritted out, turning away from the horrific sight and toward another archway on the far side of the courtyard. The maze punished us for our choice. We encountered a staircase that looped back on itself no matter which direction we climbed. A bridge that extended further the more we walked across it. A room filled with identical doors, each leading to a different point in the maze we'd already passed. At one point, we found Mara kneeling over Lissa's unconscious form near a patch of suspiciously red mushrooms.

“Now, I’m going to show you a glimpse of what you’re capable of. But remember, Jasmine, this is only a fraction of your potential.” A sharp pain pierces my chest, and I gasp, my body jerking in response. The world around me spins as the runes blaze with fiery light. A flood of images, emotions, and sensations crash over me, visions of battles long past, of forgotten cities bathed in moonlight, of creatures that exist only in myths.

“Just keep moving.” His eyes darted from side to side in search of a way out. But there was none. The world around Sage was strange and dreamlike. Mist swirled like living vines, forming shapes that disappeared as quickly as they appeared. Above, instead of a sky, there was a never-ending river of dark, moving shadows. The growls grew louder, closer. His brain yelled at him to run faster, but his muscles wouldn't respond. The sharp ache in his legs burned with every stride. “I can't stand it any longer,” he complained and jawed (with tightly shut teeth) in frustration.

"Not if we make it through them in under three minutes, preferably two." "How?" "We'll know which tunnels to take and we'll run like hell." "What about me?" I said, panic choking me. It sounded good in theory, but had they forgotten what I was, what I looked like, or did they just not care? "What about you?" "I'm a freaking Albino! I'll burn twice as fast as the rest of you!" "What? Oh. You're not going out that way. You're gonna go back out the normal way." "By myself?"

The pain was instant and absolute, searing through me as though my heart itself had been branded. I cried out, my hand flying instinctively to the mark, but the magician caught my wrist and held it firm. “Do not fight it,” he said, voice steady despite the storm around us. “Let it mark you. Let it know you.” The next rune ignited my forehead. My vision split in two, the world around me flickering between light and shadow. I saw flashes of things that didn’t belong to me, eyes in the dark, the shimmer of fur, the gleam of fangs catching moonlight. A heartbeat that wasn’t my own thundered in my skull.

"Can you actually run, or are you going to be a problem?” "I can run." "You are already limping." "I said I can run." He turned left. I ran. The maze was three floors, connected by stairwells that were not marked on any visible map, so you either found them by moving or you died waiting. The walls were concrete panels on slow hydraulic tracks, moving inward at a rate that was almost imperceptible until suddenly it was not. A corridor that was eight feet wide became six feet, then four, and if you were still in it at two feet, the sensors registered you as eliminated, and the panels completed the job.

I sucked in a breath. Heat spread beneath my skin, radiating outward through my arm. It wasn't painful, but it was strange enough to make my stomach drop. The world tilted. My vision blurred. Suddenly, an image appeared in my mind. A colossal stone gate rose from darkness, its surface carved with symbols unlike any language I knew. Crimson fire spilled through the cracks in the ancient rock, illuminating thousands of glowing runes. The sight lasted less than a second. Then it vanished. I staggered. Kael caught my arm before I could lose my balance.

She shook her head, determined to stay true to her purpose. Luna: "We must not falter, my pack. This labyrinth seeks to test our resolve. Stay vigilant and trust in our bond." Her pack nodded, their determination mirroring Luna's own. Together, they pushed forward, their paws guiding them through the maze of shadows. As they navigated the labyrinth, Luna noticed flickering glimpses of figures darting through the corners of her vision. They seemed to be mirages, elusive and ever-shifting. Luna's instincts told her that these were the guardians of the labyrinth, the tests they needed to overcome.
