Jax's Point of View My mind was in utter shock in what I had just had witnessed. A woman had just made her way into my office and out of it with total sass. She smiled at him before he grabbed all she’d listed and an extra Snapple for himself. As he set the drinks on the table he asked, “What’s ‘Yanaha’ mean, Zhoni?” She smiled. “That’s the Navajo name I have given to Jaxsen. It means ‘Brave’.” Basil smiled lightly and looked down. “He is really brave, isn’t he?” Basil looked at his hands as he said this, and he felt the blush creeping up into his cheeks.

“You’re fucked, man. She’ll never give it up.” But Jax loved a challenge. Jax Harlan was the complete opposite of Grace. At twenty-three, with messy dark hair that seemed to cover his piercing blue eyes, a lean muscular build gotten from working at the local auto shop, and snake tattoos across his arms and chest, Jax was trouble. He rode a black motorcycle through the streets and always smoked behind the old diner. His crew of friends, a rough group of mechanics and dropouts were drinking at the pool hall one lazy summer evening when the challenge was thrown down.

His voice was low, a little rough around the edges. I shrugged. “Rough weather. You?” “Same shit, different day.” He took a pull from his beer. “You from around here?” “Close enough.” I wasn’t in the mood for small talk, but the whiskey was hitting and the rain wasn’t letting up. “You?” He turned on his stool to face me properly. “Just passing through. Work thing. Flight got delayed, so here I am.” We talked like that for a bit. Nothing deep. He told me his name was Jax:probably short for something, but he didn’t offer more. I gave him mine: Lena.
