Addy yawns widely, smacking his lips as his eyes roll back in his head, but I settle him on my other breasts regardless, helping him latch and start massaging out the milk. Cole sets a cup of coffee and a plate of eggs, potatoes, and bacon in front of me while Addy nurses himself to sleep. I reach for the table on the side of the couch and grab my own notebook and the copy of The Book of Whispers. I can feel Cole watching me with interest as he tidies up in the kitchen. I choose to ignore him, for now, knowing he’s curious why I’m flipping through the pages of the book, which is written in a language none of us understand–even those who read Firestone.

Flora felt something heavy press against her body and she found it hard to breathe. Then, she heard the shrill trill of a bird close to her head as a pair of claws seemed to touch her face. “Mommy, wake up!” Flora heard the small voice of her daughter. Flora pushed her eyes open and realized that Nadi lay on top of her chest, making it hard for her to breathe . The claws that she thought were touching her face were actually Nadi’s small hands trying to wake her up. The bird call was the alarm clock sounding near her head.

With that I fell into a deep slumber. I woke up with a pain in my neck,it wasn't easy sleeping on the bare floor. Also it seemed I had caught a cold, I sneezed and my eyes watered. I checked the time on my Watch..it was one of my most prized possession, it was given to me by Christine as a birthday gift. It was 6:30 AM. We don’t say anything. And I go to sleep. Click, click, click, click, click. The sharp, rapid-fire noises bolt me from sleep. I sit straight up in bed, reaching for my Neron staff at my side. There’s no one around, but the lights going toward the Command Deck are on. I hear someone swear. I look to my side, to Valen’s bed, and find it empty. I scramble to my feet, making my way through the mess of the ship. I walk down the hall, past the doors leading elsewhere in the ship, and step into the dim light of the Command Deck.

Kristy puts a cork on the vial and goes downstairs. I start coughing, getting everyone’s attention. Binx shadows behind me, helping me sit up. “Hey, guys.” “Oh, my sweet girl.” Tabatha puts her heavy Book of Shadows down and comes around to my side of the bed. “Never hesitate to call me.” “This puts you in a bad situation.” “Not quite as bad as the one you’re in,” Evander says with a half-smile. “I’ll get out of it.” I close my eyes again and hunch forward. “I’ve gotten out of every bad situation I’ve been in so far.”

Hazel’s POV “I’m not dying, Nicholas. I’m just pregnant,” I said in frustration, glaring at him. He stood there watching me like I was made of glass and might shatter any second. His eyes were bloodshot from lack of sleep, but he still refused to rest. The book about sirens lay open on my lap, pages filled with notes I had scribbled in the margins over the last two days. “You’ve been on that book all night,” he complained, running a hand through his messy hair. “You refuse to get any sleep.”

Plus she always made sure the coffee was ready early because sir fucktard was always awake early. "Hello Rose." I waved as I took a seat at the kitchen bar. She turned and smiled at me. "Why hello Ms. Kaydence. How are you this morning? Are we still causing Mr. Night problems?" She tried to give me one of those mom looks but it just turned into a huge grin. She had probably been my only friend in this place. There had been a few of the men that I was getting close to but after Damion shot one of them for trying to take me out all of them stayed away.

She rested her hands on the desk and waited for one of them to end their calls. As soon as one of the ladies hung up on the telephone, she jumped in, “I’m new here. My name is Ayra Nightingale Rivera. I’m here for my internship.” She said all together without a pause.

"I really don't understand what you're so upset about!" The knocking continued outside as Claudia called out coquettishly, "Nick, are you asleep? Nick?" Nicholas glanced at me and barked an order, "Don't go to sleep until I get back." When he left, I got out of bed and locked the door behind him. I didn't need him to come back. The night was long. I couldn't sleep alone in the empty room. I walked over to Nicholas' bookshelf as I was hoping to find a book that could make me feel drowsy and go to sleep. To my surprise, I found a yellowed notebook tucked in between the books on the shelf.
