My heart was racing a mile a minute as I gasped awake, sweat cooling on my skin despite the warm night air. It was the same dream as always—careening over the cliff in that car, the icy lake rushing up to meet me, the taste of blood and water filling my lungs. Then… darkness. Not the peaceful kind, not the long sleep that came at the end of one’s life, but rather one filled with pain and the knowledge that I was trapped.

Phil was on a high alert when he went home, every movement in the corner of his eye made him turn his head to look at it, he felt paranoid like someone was stalking him. Phil arrived at his house and quickly ran upstairs to his bedroom after locking his front door, even at home Phil did not completely feel safe since he was all alone. He locked his bedroom door and desperately looked for the book of dreams to search for answers to his nightmares. Phil searched and searched looking for more secrets in the book flipping the pages of the book aggressively. Phil felt his rage suddenly rising, he suddenly went mad like wanting to itch an itch in his phantom limb. "AAHHHHH!"

We began our exploration in the section of myth and fantasy, where we encountered a lower section filled with fantasy tales. However, as we explored higher shelves, we stumbled upon books about "Vampirism, Witchcraft," and other dark subjects. Curiously, it appeared as though a book was missing from this specific shelf. Ignoring it, we continued our search and eventually stumbled upon a book titled "The Reaper of Sanity." "Here it is!" I exclaimed as I retrieved the book. "Oh, no!" Dominic exclaimed, clutching his head. "I need to park the car. You should start reading, I'll be right back." With that, he left me at the table with the book in my hand.

“Were these any help, detective?” “I’m afraid not,” I said, defeated. I was in a bit of a daze after staring at projected newsprint on the dim screen. I leaned on the desk and looked around the building absentmindedly until my eyes finally settled on a small sign hanging on a table covered with a neat stack of books. “Warning: The Library is Not Responsible for Nightmares!” I read out loud, walking over to look at the books. Well-worn volumes with pink skulls grinning back at me from stickers on their spines. Dracula. Frankenstein. The Invisible Man.

“What’s in that?” Emma’s good mood vanished as she turned solemn, “Blood.” She gulped looking queasy, “it’s for Damion if he is uninterested in the girls they bring him.” Yuck. Vampires were monsters and Damion just proved my view on them. “Can you help me move my stuff?” I shivered thinking of sleeping in the same room as Eric. Emma looked apologetic, “I heard. I’m sorry Val lucky for you Eric usually leaves at night.”

I doubted my sanity would remain intact if I were to be left on my own. We all sat in the cozy living room, surrounded by plush cushions and soft blankets. My three best friends; Layla, Janelle, and Sofia, as well as Alyssa, my sister-in-law, flanked me on the large couch, while Alfredo and Alvida, my parents-in-law, sat on a couch opposite ours. The room was bathed in the warm, afternoon sunlight, but no amount of light could erase the darkness that still clung to my very being. I took a deep breath and looked at them, my voice shaky as I spoke. "I've been having these recurring nightmares,"

I didn’t sleep. Not even for a second. My candle had burned out hours ago, but I didn’t even notice the lack of light. The words on the pages glowed with something deeper, something ominous—fear, revelation. Tenebrium. I must’ve read the word at least a dozen times, hoping it would somehow mean something different. Something less terrifying. It didn’t. I slammed the book shut just as the first light of dawn broke over the tall trees. A part of me hoped I was imagining things—that this was all some celestial vision that hadn’t faded. But the book was still in my hands, heavy and real as the looming threat.

Cass looked her over but frowned when she didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. “I had another nightmare. It was so terrible and so real,” Dannie said, now feeling the urge to cry. “When I woke up I...I wasn’t in my room.” She took a breath and focused on Cass. “I was in the infirmary with that book, the deabru magic one, in front of me.” “What?” Cass said and her brow furrowed and gave Dannie an odd look. “The black book, you mean the one Sara used to—”
