Just a nightmare. What was happening?

I woke with a gasp, my heart hammering in my chest. The terror of the nightmare lingered, and I sucked in air, trying desperately to calm down. Every night, it was the same. I was standing in the dark woods, and there across the clearing stood Matt. Only, I never got to him in time. I ran and screamed, begging him to get away, but Ronan always appeared to tear out his heart. I’d have to watch him fall to his knees, blood staining the snow.

I am paralyzed, that must be why mom is crying. OH GODDESS NO! Please no, don’t let me be paralyzed. If by some chance Frankie ends up being my mate at the next blood moon, he will surely reject me! I have to wake up! I can feel tears streaming down my face as this terrible nightmare rolls through my head. I slowly manage to get my eyes to open, just a little because the lights are so bright. I can see my mom talking to Dr. Lynn.

Arlette said caressing Zara’s hair. “It’s okay mom. I’m fine really. It will pass in a few days…” Zara said in a quiet tone not believing if these nightmares will ever stop. Ever since the incident she is having these nightmares, where she either sees a lifeless charlotte in her arms or the killer attacking her, and once the nightmare was over she couldn’t sleep again. So following the same routine, Arlette went back to her room while Zara laid down in the hope of having some sleep but she couldn’t do so and soon her alarm rang indicating it was time for college.

I hear squeaks and squelches and something akin to farts. Dierdre giggles after some time and turns to me, “It seems that the Bodkins think you are a king of some sort. Perhaps this journey will be far more entertaining. They might even put on a show if we remain in their land for long. They will be able to illuminate themselves and while they perform the Night Mares will keep their distance.” “Nightmares?” I ask. “Night Mares. They are black horses with sharp teeth and the ability to trap you in nightmares, or trap your soul and whisk it away. I have seen them and they can not trap me, but the stuff I see haunts my sleep for weeks after,” Deirdre replies.

She should’ve traded with Zane and sat where she had a worse view, in the middle. He could hear it snarling and growling behind him, as he raced towards the exit. Finally, he burst out of the building, and ran towards the military base, hoping to find help. But when he turned around, he saw the wolf staring at him from a distance, its eyes glowing in the darkness. Matt had disappeared, and Damien was left with a terrifying realization. They had created something that they couldn't control. The Kendrick-Davis Serum was a failure, and they had unleashed something dangerous into the world. As he stood there, watching the wolf disappear into the night, Damien knew that he had to do something to fix his mistake. But he also knew that it might be too late.
