“I’m sorry, Leo. I haven’t heard from her either. She’s been kind of distant lately. Maybe she’s just focused on work? I don’t know.” The answers were always the same. No one knew where I was. No one knew anything. Leo could feel his frustration turning into something more potent—something darker. He had lost touch with the one person who had meant the most to him, and he had no idea how to fix it. There were no answers, no explanations. Just silence. And with that silence, a cold knot of realization settled in his chest. He didn’t know where Lila had gone. He didn’t know if she would ever reach out again. But he did know one thing.

I don’t trust my own eyes until Lyric asks about it. “Maybe we should go around,” she suggests. “No,” I say, keeping my eyes fixed on the distant town, willing it to be real, to be safe. “It’s remote. The people might be okay.” It's a stupid hope, and I know it. “I don’t think proximity matters,” Lyric mutters, hitting the nail right on the head.

They stumbled upon a makeshift camp, where other survivors had gathered. A weary woman approached them, her eyes reflecting the hardship they all endured. "You two new around here?" Alex nodded, "Yeah, just passing through. Any word on a safe haven, or a cure?" The woman sighed, "No cure yet, but there's a rumor of a settlement up north. They say it's secure and working on a solution." Hope flickered in Emily's eyes. "Lead the way, then. We're in this for the long haul." As the trio embarked on a journey toward the rumored sanctuary, their conversations echoed with tales of survival, loss, and a shared desire for a brighter tomorrow.
