She lays her chin on her hand looking like a sullen child. I have no idea who she’s talking about, but everyone else seems to. They all look slightly crest fallen at the announcement. Then they all start talking at once. I hear a few phrases of “those tattoos”, “those intense eyes”, and “his body” being thrown around. I miss a lot of it though. I see a young guy approach the table; he has a very hipster vibe going for him. I don’t think this is whom they’re talking about. He sets our drinks down with a small smile and walks away.

“This isn’t about—” “It’s over,” he said to her. Just like that. No raised voice. No argument. Just final. He looked around once more. “The gathering is done. Everyone can leave.” A few people shifted awkwardly. No one spoke. “Now,” he added. That was enough. Slowly, people began to move. Whispering as they left. I stood there, still shaking. Still trying to understand what just happened. Jared didn’t look at anyone else. He didn’t say another word.

Juliet Somehow, I was back at the cafe, facing Grace's piercing gaze. After I struggled to hold back from crying, which I had been doing a lot these days, Grace managed to convince me to go back to the cafe with her. “So… how about Naomi and Leah?” I asked, not just because I was trying to shift the conversation from me, but because I was curious about the women I used to call my friends. “Leah left the country to manage her mother's farm a year after graduation”, Grace answered.
