Damon asked in a low voice, "Is the divorce part of the Commission ruling too?"
"No," I said. "That is my own decision."
His eyes shifted, as if the words had cut him. "Have you thought this through? Without Moretti, you know better than anyone how many people will come after you in North Harbor."
"Westmore has nothing left to lose."
"You still have yourself."
At last, I looked at him. "That is exactly why I have to leave you."
For a moment, Damon's face looked terrible. He seemed angry, then seemed to realize he had no right to be.
